Advantages: Great unique taste, good for you!
Disadvantages: Can spark end relationships!!! ;-)
I am most definately a Marmite lover and so are all my family! I tend to have my 'Marmite fix' every day, usually on toast in the morning. I have met many people in my life though who hate it!
Marmite was first produced over a hundred years ago and there aren't many homes in the country without a jar of this brown 'gunk' in their kitchen cupboards!
Marmite has a very discinct flavour which is very hard to describe. It is quite salty and the texture is thick, almost tar like! It comes in a round glass jar however they have now brought out a plastic 'squeezable' bottle bu I have not used this yet. I like 'scraping the barrel'!
Marmite is a yeast extract which means it is a great source of B vitamins. B vitamins have many medical benefits which include energy production, cell repair and boosting your immune system.
Deficency in these vitamins can result in anemia.
The most common way to eat Marmite is on toast however I am partial to the odd cheese and Marmite sandwich!
The main ingredients are:
- Yeast Extract
- Salt
- Vegetable Extract
- Niacin
- Spices
- Vitamins: B1, B2, Folic Acid, B12
- Riboflavin
- Folic acid
Marmite is also vegetarian friendly which is quite strange to get your head around as it has an almost meaty flavour to it!
You will definately either love or hate this stuff, whichever side of the fence you stand you will do so with passion! I can't get enough of the stuff, however I once went out with a guy who wouldn't even kiss me after I had eaten it he hated it so much!!
Summary: Every home should have it!
