Advantages: Unique, Tasty, Good Spread For Different Things, Nutritionally Beneficial
Disadvantages: Intense Taste & Smell
Marmite is a spread for sandwiches, toast or crackers and I think it tastes really unique and yummy. It has a very intense strong flavour, which is what may put some people off. The smell too is very intense and somewhat sweet and stingy. It's got a black appearance so looks even more unique and it has a thick, sticky consistency.
It comes in a variety of different jars and bottles. You can get it in a normal glass jar in three sizes:
125g: £1.20
250g: £2.43
500g: £4.89
Buy however much you will use, as it doesn't really work out cheaper to buy bigger. The jar has the marmite logo in white writing on a red ribbon background. On the white bit below, it says 'yeast extract', which is what marmite is. On a green strip, it says 'contains B vitamins - 100% vegetarian'. It is actually quite a healthy snack so is good to have as part of a balanced diet.
You can also buy a squeezy plastic jar, which is £2.14 and you get 200g. It's a lot easier to use as you can squeeze some out onto bread rather than using a knife. The taste is very strong and I think it needs to be balanced with some butter. You should not use a large amount due to this as it will blow your head off. The taste is somewhat sweet and really unique - hard to describe. You'd have to try it and decide whether you love, or hate it.
It's a great product and surprisingly good for you as it contains some nutritious ingredients that aren't in many foods. I would definitely recommend trying it as it goes very well with sandwiches, toast, baguettes and crackers. You can even use it as a dip for bread sticks, unless you buy the marmite bread sticks themselves!
Thanks for reading,
