Advantages: yummy
Disadvantages: none
I remember marmite from my childhood, Having marmite on toast for breakfast while my dad had it with cheese in a ryvita sandwich. I must of got my love from it from my Dad as my mother cannot stand the Black tar like spread.
I first gave my children marmite at a young age, both of them where a month younger than one when they first had a tiny amount spreaded on a slice of toast cut in fingers. Although it does have a high salt level, health professionals say that a little bit with toast is a suitable snack for a child 1+.

Food ideas....
How about the classic marmite and cheese sandwich or classic marmite on toast.
Or for the more adventerous marmite chicken The following recipe I found on the net and is really yummy...
250 ml vegetable oil
500 g chicken thighs (cut into pieces)
Ingredients (A)
1 teaspoon soya sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon cornflour
Ingredients (B)
2 tablespoons marmite
1 tablespoon maltose
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon soya sauce
1/8 teaspoon pepper
100 ml chicken stock
Marinade chicken pieces with ingredients (A) for at least one hour.
Deep fry chicken pieces until cooked. Remove and put aside.
In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and add in ingredients (B). Cook on medium heat until thickens. Add in fried chicken pieces and mix well. Remove and serve immediately.
Appearance...
Marmite is nearly black in colour and is a thick tarry like consistancy.
It smells strong and salty although its made from yeast extract it doesn't smell yeasty like say certain beer do.
More info can be found at the marmite website which has a love or hate side to it there is some great sandwich ideas on there such as the sunday roast sandwich and oceans lover. As well as selling so great gifts for the marmite lover you know they do a great range of kitchenwares.
Marmite comes in a squeezing bottle now but I prefer the jars as I feel I have more control over how much I add and that way I have no waste.
Marmite is a lovely spread in small doses too much and I find it becomes too powerfully.
Bad behaviour....
Although my kids love marmite if they use bad language, they have the marmite experiance which is a blob of marmite doesn't have to be big with I shove on their tongue, The threat of having the marmite tends to stop any bad language and to this date my 8 yr old son has had it twice.
Much better than washing the mouth out with soap which I experienced many times as a child.
I brought a small jar yesterday for £1.19 but jars go up in size to the largest which is about £4 something.
The packaging is a round glass jar with a yellow screw lid.
Summary: excellent breakfast lunchtime dinnertime anytime food!!!!
