Advantages: to some it is the taste
Disadvantages: and to others it is the taste
Marmite is created by utilising a yeast extract, which comes in the form of an unwanted by-product in beer fermentation.
The company that make Marmite first came up with their creation in 1902 and has been a popular topic of heated debate ever since!
Marmite became popular as an alternative to the beef extract delicacies such as Bovril which of course were not quite marketable towards vegetarians and vegans.
Marmite can be mixed with hot water and drunk in the same way that Bovril used to be in the late 19th and 20th centuries but is mainly now best eaten, in my opinion, on warm toast.
Marmite comes in lots of different sizes ranging from 57g to 600g and whilst it remains to be a popular source of the vitamin b complex: vitamin B12, its actual creation still to this day remains a trade secret.
So the final question that remains is do I love marmite or do I hate it?
In all honesty I can say that sometimes I like marmite on toast and sometimes I do not so I neither love nor hate it. I'd say I appreciate its strange flavour...

- 21/09/09 I mix it with corned beef and red onion. It makes a lovely filling. |
