Advantages: It is good for you

Disadvantages: It tastes evil, It smells eveil

OK so who was it in a moment of pure evil thought of making Marmite?

Before we go any further down this road I would like to say that I subscribe to the theory that there are two schools of thought about Marmite. That is you either LOVE it or you HATE it and I am definitely in the latter of the two categories by a long way!

I do buy the revolting stuff and keep it in the house because, unfortunately my partner, Dave, is in the 'love it' category and thinks it's highly amusing to try and kiss me when he's had his Marmite on toast. I?m sure that from the resulting screams the neighbours think that he is murdering me! (Mind you they never bother to check!)

It isn't only the taste of marmite that I hate; it's the smell of the stuff as well. Why in heavens name can't you have marmalade on your toast? It tastes much better!

For those of you who don't know what Marmite is, it's a spread made mainly from yeast extract and it is very high in B vitamins so I do accept that it is good for you.

It comes as a dark brown, thick, sticky, spreadable paste and can be eaten as I said earlier spread on bread or toast. It can also be made into a drink by putting a spoonful in a cup of boiling water, in the same way that you would drink Bovril. It can also be added to cooking when you're making stews or soups too.

Marmite comes in a familiar, round shaped glass jar, the design of which hasn't appreciably altered since it was first produced.

I always keep the opened jar in the fridge as you are advised to 'store in a cool dark place'.

The current cost of Marmite at Tesco's is as follows:
57g costs 68p
125g costs £1.07
250g costs £1.98
500g costs £3.70

It contains yeast extract, salt, vegetable extract, Niacin, Thiamin, spice extracts, riboflavin, folic acid and vitamin B12, so it also suitable for vegetarians.

It is made by a c
ompany calle
d Bestfoods UK Limited - well that's a matter of opinion isn't it?

I will end this opinion by saying that I wanted to balance the opinions here on Dooyoo. I had read a few praising Marmite so I thought I?d better put the opposite point of view!

I must stress that even though I have been forceful in my hatred of this product I do appreciate that we all have the right to our own opinions and that the world would be a sad place indeed if we all thought and felt the same way about everything.

This is only MY opinion and no offence is intended to the Marmite loving population of Dooyoo!

Will only eat it when mixed in with plenty of butter so I reckon I'm more of a 'hate' it kinda gal than a 'love' it!!
