I have been eating Mars bars since the late 50's so let me tell you all I know about them
If you are American do not get confused as untill the year 2000 you called a different bar a mars bar. This bar had whole almonds in the nougat centre , the English edition did not .
The Mars company and the mars bar took its name from Frank Mars in 1932 when he started producing snacks you could take on the road with you.
The Mars bar was first produced in 1932 by MARS incorporated . It was produced in Slough as a sweeter version of the American milky way.
The Mars bar is a bar made of a malt nougat which then has a layer of caramel on it this then is covered with milk chocolate . There are other versions available from time to time . A dark chocolate version has been available, also seasonal mars bars delights are available. There is a mars bar mini egg, a mars bar icecream and mini mars bars in various mini chocolate bar selections .
Although I have never had one I believe deep fried Mars bars are popular with a few people , I think these battered and deep fried bars are available in some chip shops in Scotland.
On a summers day a chilled or frozen mars bar is best it melts slower.
Now I can not remember my first experience with a Mars bar , but it must have been in the late 50's. The bar then was a little different to the bar now. It was somehow thicker and chunckier It was more satisfying than the modren mars. The slogan was a mars a day helps you work rest and play .
In the year 2002 the mars bar changed a little. The packaging slightly different. The nougat became lighter the caramel layer I think is thinner as is the chocolate covering. The standard Mars bar wieghs a little less. The slogon a mars a day helps you work rest and play has been swapped for "Pleasure you can't measure" I think Mars is now targeted at women rather than men I think that more women eat more chocolate than men .
A sweet treat can be made a type of chocolate crispie snack , You make this by melting mars bars and stirring in rice crispies then put them in little cake cases and cool them .You could always add and melt a few marshmallows into this mix it makes a chewy chrunchy treat .
A mars contains 449 calories per 100g a standars mars bar wieghs 65g I think . A single mars bar costs 36p in tesco's.
Now do I prefer the new er Mars bar ? no I do not I prefer the thicker chunckier mars bar to get my teeth into .Which one do you prefer ?
Summary: A thick nougat bar witgh a caramel layer covered in chocolate .
