Advantages: delicious, sweet, found all over

Disadvantages: Unhealthy

Although Mars Bars are not something I eat a lot of, when I get a hankering for one, I just cant help myself (hankering is a really common word isn't it? I feel cheap). The Bars have been around for as long as I can remember, and when I looked into it, it turns out Mars first started manufacturing the tasty treat since 1932! Although its aged quite a bit, the Mars experience does not get old.

Mars Bars come in a shiny black wrapper with attractive red lettering, making it easily stand out amongst the other sweets on the shelf. When you tear into the wrapper, the chocolate revealed just looks solid; there is still no indication as to what the Mars Bar looks like on the inside. The top of the pale brown milk chocolate bar is quite bumpy, with a 'line' across the top, making it quite unique compared to others. There is a strong chocolaty aroma that drifts up from the chocolate too, which is most appetising and incredibly tempting!

Taste and texture are both important when eating, and its necessary for them to compliment each other in order to enjoy foods. Fortunately, the Mars Bar is a winner in both areas. When you first bite into the chocolate, your teeth go straight through the layers; the sticky sweet caramel layers smothering the top of the soft and chewy nougat go perfectly with the sweet milk chocolate. Three different tastes and textures, but together they create an amazing experience!

The Mars Bar is so sweet and tasty, there's so surprise that its not exactly nutritionally good! Each standard 62.5g bar contains a whopping 280 calories and 11g fat! The wrapper in front of me does not state how much sugars the Bar contains, though it does say there are 42.6g carbohydrates and I can only imagine a lot of that is sugars.

*WARNING*: The Mars Bar contains milk and whey powder, and may contain traces of nuts. Though, it is however suitable for vegetarians.

You'll find Mars Bars all over, priced at different amounts. I paid 59p (!) for mine at my local corner shop, which over-prices all of their goods, but you should expect to pay around 45-60p per Bar.

The chocolate treat has a good shelf-life too. I bought mine in June 2008, and it does not expire until January 2009. Though, I doubt I'd find myself waiting six months to eat it.

Mars Bars can be eaten in many ways. When I was little, my mam used to chop it up into little pieces and present it on a plate. Each little bite size piece was the perfect size for my little mouth, and I enjoyed the lot! You can also put it in the fridge for a more 'solid' treat, or dunk it into a hot drink (tea's the one for me!) and suck at the melting chocolate. Chopping it up into ice cream, preferably vanilla is quite tasty too. Making Crispy Cakes? Instead of using normal chocolate, try melting a Mars Bar and mixing the Rice Krispies/Cornflakes into it; it's surprisingly sticky sweet and appetising! I remember playing a game at a school Christmas party one year too when you had to cut up a Mars Bar through the wrapper with a blindfold...quite dangerous but delicious!

Mars have not just created this product in several sizes of Bars, but have also offered us a wide range of other tasty treats too. Over the years there have been many products. There are too many to name, but some of my favourites have included; Mars Delight, Mars Milkshake, Bick&s, and Mars Cake Bars. You can also find little Mars Bars in tins and boxes of Celebrations!

Mars don't just create Mars Bar products, but also offer other sweet treats such as the Twix, Snickers and Starbursts chews. After a little researching, I discovered that they actually manufacture other products that I was quite surprised by, such as Sheba cat food and Cesar dog food!

Although it may be quite unhealthy, the Mars Bar is a delicious treat for now and again.
