Advantages: a lovely combination of flavours
Disadvantages: as the price goes up, the size goes down
While on the whole I try to stay as healthy as possible, every now and then I like to treat myself to a little chocolate. So it seems whilst I'm stuck in a queue in a newsagents my hands and more importantly my desire draws me towards a Mars Bar. I've always found them to be my favourite type of chocolate, especially when it's chilled. The bar itself is made by the Mars company in Slough and has been around in its current form, if not slightly larger since the 1930's.
The bar comes in a black wrapper with red writing on it. They are a fairly distinctive bar and certainly one that really stands out. The bar itself weighs 62.5g, which I'm sure is much lighter than they used to be when I was a kid. In fact I'm pretty sure that as the price has gone up, the size of the bar has started to shrink.
I've always liked Mars bars and I think that is really down to the bars appearance and taste. The bar itself is a soft chocolate nougat, with a layer of Caramel on top and coated in delicious Mars milk chocolate. The combination of the three flavour gives the mars bar a very unique taste. The nougat seems to cancel out an overbearing taste from the chocolate and they combine really well. The soft nougat centre is perhaps the most appealing aspect of the bar.
The mixture of the soft nougat and chocolate is also accentuated by the layer of caramel. The three flavours mix well and create a very sweet and sickly, but truly delicious chocolate bar. As much as I love Mars bars I do find them a little too much and if I have anything more than a normal sized bar it starts to make me feel slightly ill. They are available in King Size, snack size and duo bars as well as a standard bar but I like to stick to the standard ones.
The combination of flavours is the real appeal of the Mars bar the chocolate, nougat and caramel blend together and create a bar that is a rather nice treat every once in a while. Ok so I have one a week but a girl has to treat herself. They are available from all good newsagents and supermarkets and cost between 40 and 45p for a standard sized bar depending on where you buy them from.
