Great taste, but very rich (Mars Bar)

Advantages: Fab taste, good energy boost

Disadvantages: Very rich, a whole bar is a bit much

Mars Bars were one of the few chocolate bars on the shelves when I was a kid, at least it feels like they were as I used to love to look at that black, red and gold package and wonder if I could talk mum into buying me one.

Unfortunately for me (well as I thought at the time) my mum usually settled for a Milky Bar on the assumption that it would make less mess because it was white - I guess I must have had a lot of white t-shirts or something. Some special occasions did warrant milk chocolate though so I did get opportunities to eat them from time to time.

I loved holding the substantial size bar in my hand and unwrapping it and I loved the first half of it, with all that caramel and chocolate melting into one. The second half of it was always a bit of a struggle though, they are very rich and kind of large but one doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth and so I always ate it despite a slightly queasy feeling and it spoiled the first half for me a bit. Undeterred, I still wanted it next time I got the change to choose some sweets though.

I still have the same problem with them today, love the flavour but a whole bar is a bit much. That said, if I haven't had the chance to eat before I play sports then I do turn to them as a brilliant and almost instant glucose boost (plus they're always in the vending machine at the leisure centre).

Where the Mars Bar is at its most perfect though is in the Celebrations packet. Little tiny bite size ones - all that great taste and none of the sickness afterward - genius!

Summary: Try the Celebrations size instead - all the taste in little bite size pieces
