Advantages: very sweet instant sugar rush..
Disadvantages: totally fattening...
The mars bar was first introduced in 1932 and was made and manufactured in slough, by a company call Mars incorporate, this is also known as Master foods.
Originally the Mars bar was lot bigger and contained more chocolate, but in 2002 the size was reduced to a much smaller 62.5 grams, they improved the recipe by making the Mars bar with lighter nougat and smaller amount of chocolate and caramel.
I think that the original Mars was much better before the 2002 change, as it seemed to fill me up but now days it can take me two bars to feel satisfied.
The Mars has a really thick sticky texture, filled with light fluffy nougat and a layer of very sticky caramel, this is then totally coated in thick milk chocolate.
These are very sweet and give you an instant sugar rush, this soon wears off and leaves you wanting more.
Each 62.5 gram Mars bar contains Milk Chocolate, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Lactose, Skimmed Milk, Milk fat, Soy Lechithin, Artificial Flavors, Corn Syrup, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Cocoa Powder, Malted Barley, Wheat Flour, Salt, Egg-Whites and Soy Protein.
In early 2007 the Marsbar sales plummeted as it was announced that they were no longer suitable for vegetarians, as they were produced by using a chemical from calves stomachs, this was hear say at first but Master foods confirmed it and therefore lost many sales of the Mars bar.
My favourite is the deep fried Mars bar, this was introduced in Scotland back in 2005 and is now widely available from most fish and chip shops across the UK. Many feel that this is an awful idea as did I until I tried one, the sweet and savoury blended together works really well and I would recommend it to anyone.
Summary: you have to try a deep fried mars bar...

- 03/11/08 I can go for months with out one then out of the blue I have to have one! The stuff from calves stommachs is called rennet and any vegetarians out their should read the packets of other sweets very carefully because many other products you wouldn't suspect of containing animal products do! |
