"A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play"
Everyone knows about the Mars Bar, as it's an extremely well loved piece of confectionary. But it isn't the world's best selling chocolate bar, that honour goes to the Snickers, which is another a product made by the Mars group.
The Mars Bar was first made available in the UK in 1932, when it was manufactured in a twelve man factory in Slough. At that time Mars was fairly novel, as the chocolate bars of the era were generally solid, and unlike Mars, didn't have a filling.
Mars Bars are widely available, and come in a few variations including 'Mars Delight', 'Mars Planets', 'Mars Funsize', and 'Mars Ice-Cream'. The standard single 62.5g bar costs 39p from Tesco, and can also be found in most newsagents and petrol stations.
The product contains; Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Skimmed Milk Powder, Vegetable Fat, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Lactose Milk Fat, Demineralised Whey Powder, Fat Reduced Cocoa, Barley Malt Extract, Emulsifier (E442, Soya Lecithin), Salt, Egg White, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Flavouring (Traces: Peanut). This is a fairly unremarkable ingredient list, although I wasn't aware that the Mars bar contained any egg products.
I am a pretty big fan of the Mars Bar, but find them quite sickly if I eat more than one. I enjoy the combination of the chocolate, nougat and caramel, and would place this confectionary on an even keel with Snickers which I recently reviewed.
Each Mars Bar contains 284 calories - which is rather high - but I recommend them anyway!
Summary: Tasty chocolate bar
