Advantages: Chunky chocolate on top, first bite is tasty.
Disadvantages: Gets a bit boring and sickly
Ah, the Mars bar - the faithful staple of the chocolate kingdom. The Mars bar is pretty much the flagship chocolate bar made by Masterfoods, creators of the Twix, the Galaxy and of course the comically named Snickers, amongst others.
Mars bars (which, like Snickers have DRAMATICALLY SHRUNK over the years) are made up of soft nougat and caramel, and surrounded by chocolate.
The chocolate exterior is quite thin, but on top it's nice and chunky, and has that nice creamy Galaxy chocolate texture and taste. Within, the nougat and caramel is soft and chewy but not too sticky. Like the chocolate, the filling has a very sweet flavour.
The first bite of a Mars bar is a wonderfully tasty thing. Unfortunately I almost always find Mars bars to be a little sickly, and by the end I get a bit bored. This worries me, this being such a small chocolate bar! Although they are fairly substantial and rich, they are a bit too sweet for my liking. This is especially highlighted by the texture of the bar, which can be rather bland.
The size of the bar seems a bit meager somehow. It could do with being a little bit chunkier, perhaps with a thicker layer of chocolate surrounding it to make the texture a bit more varied. On the other hand, although the bar is small, it is quite heavy, especially when compared to say the Milky Way.
I know loads of people who love chocolate but aren't really that keen on Mars bars. For that reason, it seems odd that the bar is still retained as the 'flagship' bar of the Masterfoods repertoire - the chocolate equivalent of Coca Cola, perhaps? I don't necessarily see this as a bar that is universally appealing.
Overall the Mars bar is a fairly tasty chocolate bar - I mean, if you offered me one, I wouldn't say no - but it's certainly got flaws and it's not for everybody. If you like chocolate and you're not familiar with the brand already (Where have you been?!) I recommend that you try one!
Summary: Might not be everyones cup of tea
