Advantages: Filling

Disadvantages: Filling- too filling and heavy for me

If I think of a chocolate bar that has not changed over the years a Mars Bar would spring to mind. Everything about them has remained pretty much constant especially the packaging, marketing and market positioning. Over the last few years other spin off Mars Bar products have been launched such as but the traditional Mars Bar has stood firm.

*****Packaging*****

The Mars Bar packaging has not really changed over the years and as a result the packaging is recognisable on the shelves despite the fact that it is not very distinctive. The wrapper is predominantly black with Mars written in red font with a gold outline.

*****Price******

Priced at a standard "chocolate bar price" in my local shop at 45p. It is priced slightly lower than the Dairy Milk range but only by a few pence. The snack sized bars are available in multipacks and priced around £1.20 in Asda for six smaller sized 32g bars. The snack sized products are often on special offer in supermarkets more so than the standard sized bars.

*****The Chocolate Bar ******

You will notice that when you bite into a Mars Bar even if they have not been kept in the fridge they are very solid and almost stodgy as they are so dense and ingredients packed together. The immediate taste is of milk chocolate as the bar has a milk chocolate covering. The milk chocolate is sweet but not as sweet and creamy as Dairy Milk chocolate.

The Mars Bar is filled with soft firm nougat and on top is a soft caramel filling. The nougat inside a Mars Bar is quite firm and denser than inside of a Double Decker which is lighter and chewier. This is probably the least prevalent taste when you bite into a Mars Bar as it only has a light toffee type taste.

The lasting taste in your mouth is of caramel which is extremely sweet and is very sickly. I am quite a fan of sweet tasting chocolate bars but I find Mars Bars too sweet especially as they are quite heavy and stodgy and fill me up very quickly. After a few mouthfuls of the standard sized chocolate bar I start to find it difficult to finish the bar.

The Mars Bar... "Work Rest and Play" slogan is not reflective in my opinion. It is only true of the rest part; as after you have eaten one you will need to rest. But will be too full to work and definitely too full to play after eating a full Mars Bar.

On a positive a standard Mars Bar is quite filling and unlike some other chocolate bars it will leave you satisfied and full up for a longer time and therefore stop you wanting to eat another chocolate bar immediately after.

*****Nutritional Information******

A standard 65g Mars Bar contains:
294 calories
11.4g fat

A smaller snack size Mars Bar (32g) contains
146 calories
5.3 g fat

I was quite surprised that a standard (65g) Mars Bar only has slightly higher calorie content than other similar sized chocolate bars such a Double Decker or a Cadbury's Caramel. Mainly because it is so filling I would expect it to contain a lot more calories and also fat.

I prefer the snack sized Mars Bar as it is less filling and is a less calorific treat.

****Overall****

I don't dislike Mars Bars however if I was to chose a chocolate bar I wouldn't choose a Mars Bar. For me a Mars Bar is too filling and a standard size bar is less of a snack and more of a meal. Snack size all of the for me..... otherwise I will spoil my tea.

Summary: Mars Bar- legend!

Nice detailed review. I don't think I'd be able to write that much on a mars bar but you pulled it off.
