Advantages: Tastes nice, fills a gap, provides a good burst of energy.

Disadvantages: None, it's a bar of chocolate.

The good old Mars bar, it's not exactly my favourite bar of chocolate but something I would class as utility chocolate. It is something I would eat whilst out hiking or climbing, or like last night whilst still recovering from a pretty bad hangover, as in all cases the glucose and sugar infusion can provide a nice burst of energy.

Perhaps this is why at one time (not that long ago) the packaging proclaimed the Mars bar to be the official snack of the British Olympic team. Even then I found it hard to believe that something as inherently unhealthy (unless eaten in moderation) would be used by athletes at the top of their game.

Instead the pack now proclaims made in Slough, UK. This probably because each 58g bar contains 259 calories which is according to the pack is 13% of an adults daily intake. A bar also contains 10.1g of fat although it doesn't specify how much of that is saturated.

I do like a Mars bar every now and again, although when out walking I tend to use very dark chocolate or home made "POWER" bars.

Summary: Whern the time is right it's the only choice.
