Advantages: Reasonably priced, lots of sugar.

Disadvantages: Can get bland.

Mars has been a brand name in the UK for many years now. The chocolate bar consists of milk chocolate with soft nougat and caramel. Although the taste is quite exciting at first it does become quite repetitive over time to the point where you sometimes find yourself craving something a little more interesting now and again.

The Mars bar comes in a number of packaging options now but generally the two that you'll find are the standard Mars Bar and the Mars Duo (a replacement for the King Size Mars bar, essentially about a third bigger than a standard mars bar by weight and sold in a single wrapper as two smaller bars.) Other varieties include fun size and multipacks.

The Mars bar consists of a large amount of sugar in various forms and is often used by walkers and backpackers to help give an energy boost when reserves are low, something I have used it for myself and found it very good at.

I find that Mars can also make an excellent alternative to icing for a cake topping, melted down carefully in a microwave and spread quickly they make a solid, if fattening, topping turning a simple sponge cake into something different altogether. Seems a bit more appealing to the Deep Fried Mars Bar that my friends keep trying to convince me to try!

Best served chilled, the humble Mars bar has a number of uses some that you may not have thought of.
