Advantages: Filling and scrummy
Disadvantages: High in calories and fat
Yesterday I had a Mars Bar for the first time in what is probably a couple of years, so I decided that the time was right for writing a review. I also decided that it definitely wouldn't be another two years until I had my next one!
Mars Bars are made by the Mars chocolate company. They come in black wrappers with the word Mars written on the front in red and gold, and this gives the packaging a vibrant and distinctive look. It is quite a classic style and stands out from the other chocolate bars around.
The bar consists mostly of a soft nougat centre which makes up 32% of the bar. On top of the nougat is a layer of caramel which makes up 27% of the bar, and surrounding these is a thick casing of milk chocolate.
Mars bars taste really scrummy. I don't normally like nougat but in these bars it is really soft and has a similar texture and taste to truffle. It goes really nicely with the caramel and chocolate. The bar is also really filling and stops you feeling hungry, unlike some other chocolate bars which barely fill a hole in your tummy and leave you wanting another one straight away.
One average sized 58 gram bar contains 259 calories and 10.1 grams of fat. This is quite a high amount of both entities, but on the plus side Mars bars do not contain any artificial colours, preservatives or flavours. Most of the ingredients are natural and the bars aren't crammed full of E numbers, so this is a sweet that I wouldn't be too concerned about giving to my children every now and then.
A 58 gram bar will cost you around 40-60p depending where you buy it, which is reasonable value. You can also buy mini Mars bars, Mars ice creams or the new Duo Mars bars.
Summary: A lovely treat
