Advantages: Tasty, So Old That Every Generation Think They 'Own' It
Disadvantages: Lots Of Calories, Can't Eat It All In One Go (I know I'm a wuss!), Bite Sized Version May Be Better
My review of The Mars Bar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Introduction
~~~~~~~~
A sweet that barely needs an introduction; it's been a firm favourite here in the UK for as long as I can remember... Every newsagent, supermarket etc sells Mars Bars and why not -lol!
My Opinion/ Features
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was growing up I loved Mars Bars and even now I start salivating when I see that unmistakeable black wrapper... somehow I can't resist throwing a Mars into my shopping trolley while I'm going along :-)
Tastewise the combination of the nougat, almonds, caramel and milk chocolate just can't be beat, though I have to say that...
(and I don't know whether this is just because I'm a little older and wiser, or just because I fear my dentist and unhealthy eating)
... although I love Mars Bars I usually get bored about half way through the bar if I try to eat it all at once! I've developed a strategy of cutting the bar in half and saving the other half in the fridge for another day -lol!!
Maybe it's just me being weird -but although I can eat any other chocolate bar straight off -like a 'topic' or 'kitkat' etc... a Mars always defeats me somehow...
Another great use for my 'spare' half of Mars Bar is for my dog who has to have a lot of pills - a bit of Mars Bar is an excellent way to disguise those 'nasty' vets pills that would otherwise get spat out. So dog may well be man's best friend, but Mars is definitely man and dog's shared interest.
I've tried the infamous 'fried' variation of the Mars Bar (my young nephew talked me in to this particular 'delight' while we were in the chip shop on holiday once) have to say I don't recommend it. You get an unrecognisable, melted, yucky sweet thing that looks and probably tastes (though I have no way of verifying this -lol!) like a battered, deep fried dog turd! If you think chocolate's unhealthy wait till you digest it covered in batter and fat - and trust me it really isn't worth it for the taste... I prefer my Mars Bars un-messed-about :-)
My Verdict
~~~~~~~
For a chocolate bar that's been around since 1932 the Mars Bar is as relevant and fun as it ever was... whole generations can enjoy it together and all feel it's from 'their' generation. I love Mars Bars (as long as I don't have to eat them all at once) and if you haven't tried one yet, I really recommend it...
...Though obviously it's slammed full of calories, so you don't want to eat them too often. The fun/bite sized Mars Bars make an interesting variation -if like me you can't eat them all at once. But in the end there's just something great about buying the big full size 'proper' Mars Bar.
Hope you found my review helpful and interesting!!
Best wishes,
