Advantages: Very sweet taste

Disadvantages: Not healthy - 100g of Mars contains nearly 10% saturated fat

Ah the Mars bar. This is one of the most well known confectionary items available at virtually any groceries store. I haven't tried a standard Mars bar for years, except the mini Mars chocolates found in a Celebrations box.

Description: The Mars bar is simply described as "Milk chocolate with soft nougat and caramel centre".

Packaging: The 58g Mars bar is contained within a simple black foil wrapper with the instantly recognisable Mars logo in red on the main display panel. Both ends of the wrapper are perforated for easy opening.

Appearance: The Mars bar is oblong shaped and is coated in milk chocolate. The bar has a ridged appearance on the top of the bar, and is flat on the sides and underneath.

Smell: The milk chocolate is fairly unique to Mars and is instantly noticeable when you open up the wrapper. The smell is tempting and appetising.

Taste: The taste is very sweet, and the coating of chocolate, gooey caramel and nougat blends well but is perhaps a bit too sickly. The caramel also tends to stick to your teeth which make you fear that you may need to visit the dentist soon. The bar itself is very filling and going back to the desk after lunch was quite tough as I found that I was starting to feel drowsy!

Healthy: No! 100 g of Mars contains nearly 10% saturated fat, and 60% carbohydrates as sugars. Mars is a nice very occasional treat but if you stuck to the old slogan "A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play" you would also need to visit the gym every day to work it off!

Overall: A sweet if somewhat sickly occasional treat.
