Advantages: Great tasting, can be shared easily, readily available

Disadvantages: Some places charge alot, not as good as the regular mars bar, "nutrition".

After school, I decided it was time for a little snack so I plodded off to the vendies in search of a little something to give me that sugar rush. Something caught my eye which had never done so before. Of course I had noticed it every other day I had been there but I had normally just gone for the products I knew, and liked. However today was different. Something jumped out at me -not literally-. The particular chocolate bar was a "Mars Delight". Mars delights have been around for years, though to that day I had never tried one. I guess I was a little worried it wouldn't live up to its brother the regular mars bar. However that day I decided enough was enough and so I slotted in my money and waited for it to drop...

In the particular vending machine at my school, the mars delight had cost me 50p. This was the most expensive thing in the vending machine, as everything else was selling for either 40p or 45p. I did think this was a little steep but I decided to not let it put me off and I trecked off home quickly in order to sample my purchase.
It was only when I was in Tesco the other day I realised how much I had been ripped off. The exact same chocolate bar was selling in Tesco for 36p. And then, the next day I was in the Esso garage and I spotted the bar selling for 39p. It was also part of an offer 4 for £1 in the garage however I passed up on the offer that particular day.

The mars delight is packaged in a rather fancy looking wrapper; the main colour being a pale yellow/light goldish. MARS is written in the usual red writing highlighted with gold and then black, sitting on a black and gold swirl. Next to the word MARS, Delight is written in smaller white writing, outlined in black allowing it too stand out. Next to the word delight there is a scrumptious looking picture of the bar contained inside. There are two of them, one with a bite out revealing a gorgeous looking centre. The packaging was very tempting and looked somehow "royal".

The back of the wrapper is home to the nutrition information, allergy information and ingredients. The nutrition is written in a little table in white writing which is quite difficult to read. Now the information is given per 100g and per 20g. When I first read the information it stated that 20g contained only 111 calories and 6.7g of fat. It was only when I opened the bar to tuck in that I realised there were two bars inside, and infact each of _these_ were 20g. So if you decided to indulge in the whole chocolate bar, you would be consuming 222 calories and 15.4g of fat. This is really only what can be expected, most chocolate bars sit around the 200-250 calorie mark and usually contain between 9-16g of fat.
The back of the wrapper also states information reguarding ingredients, again the information is written in white writing, meaning I had to strain my eyes. The ingredients are only really what you can expect, one of the main ones being sugar.
Allergy wise, the bars may contain traces of nuts so if allergic be careful when consuming.

I unwrapped the wrapper and was surprised to find that the chocolate bar, was in fact chocolate bars. Two smaller than normal but quite thick chocolate bars, lying "top to tail". I picked up one of the bars and gave a little sniff. There wasn't too much of a chocolate smell, however it was faintly there. The bar was a very unusual shape, not at all what I had been expecting. The bottom of the bar was flat and the sides of the bar came up into a sort of dome shape. The dome was actually ridges, and the ridges were quite deep at that. I am not exactly sure what the idea was behind the design but when I was holding I did realise that it was quite easy to hold onto, much easier than regular chocolate bars which have a tendancy to melt all over your fingers. Don't get me wrong however, after around a minute the milk chocolate began to moisten and I decided that was it telling me tuck in...

I picked up one of the fingers and took a little nibble off the end. On my first little taste I only bit off a tiny little bit of chocolate. The chocolate was exactly like that of a mars bar. Creamy and quite sweet too. The peice of chocolate I happened to bite off was really thick and my hopes were high for the rest of the bar. After I had sampled the milk chocolate I tried to suck a little of the creme from the centre, when I sucked however only a small amount came out from the end of the bar, however it was enough to set my tastebuds alight! The cream filling was infact very creamy, tasting somewhat of white chocolate with the slight hint of hazelnut (?) and milk chocolate. Considering that the prodcut doesn't contain any nuts it was quite a surprise. I then took a great bite from the other end, this time getting a taster of the wafer too. The wafer wasn't crunchy, but neither was it soft and soggy. The 3 combinations mixed together wonderfully, the creamy milk chocolate, the sticky and creamy cream filling and the delightful wafer too. Although the taste was scrumptious, in my opinion it didn't live up to its big brother, the delicious original Mars Bar. I wasn't overly disappointed though as I wasn't actually expecting it to be as good.
After I had finished I was left with a really sweet taste in my mouth and my craving for something sweet had been curbed.

The taste of the mars delight reminded me slightly of a kinder beuno. It also resembled the new "kit kat senses" however I do think the mars delight differed slightly.

5 Sense summary-
*Sound- n/a
*Texture- smooth milk chocolate, smooth fonadnt filling, crispy wafer
*Sight- Thick milk chocolate bar with ridged top
*Scent- slight milk chocolate
*Taste- delicious creamy milk chocolate, creamy and sweet cream filling, biscuity wafer

**

Overall I'd definitly reccomend these. They are most commonly found selling singly however they do come in multipacks, containing 5 regular sized (40g) bars. Around christmas time they can also be found in cardboard box type things, containing around 20 mini mars delights!
