Advantages: YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY, I'VE GOT CHOCCIE IN MY TUMMY!

Disadvantages: THEY'RE 'ROUND'...BUT NOT SADLY FOR LONG!

As if receiving a Maltesers Easter egg wasn't a nice enough individual treat, the lovely confection kindly decided to bring some tasty little nibbles along for the gobbledy gastro-intestinal ride!

Technically my Emo/Goth teenager got this huge 'Maltesers & Friends' Easter egg as a gift from her Auntie; however it falls upon me to be 'The Official Taster of all Things Confectionery' that come through my front door - and I take my role quite seriously thank you very much!
Being a responsible and loving mother, it is the least I can do to protect my darling only child from any unpleasant tastes or nasty foody textures!

Right let's face it, before any of you pedants start twittering on about this seasonal treat being accompanied by 'added extras' so it's in the wrong category - or the trivial fact its post-Easter now, let me just say: "This is the best time to review these choccie oval offerings - 'After' the event, okay!"

This indulgence has now been 'tried and tested', and then stamped as 'Passed' via the strict quality standards my little family places on various 'Mars' named products (she says licking the side of her greedy, little mouth after trogging an entire tasty pack of Maltesers, in the name of gratuitious 'dooyoo market research'!).

I have no idea of the price of this item, although I would hazard an educated guess at around the £3.99 mark for the 316 gram total which comprises of a largish 165 gram hollow egg - plus two 37 gram packs of crunchy Maltesers, a pack of Galaxy Minstrels weighing in at a slightly heavier 42 gram, plus a 35 gram packet of Revels.
The Use By Date is the beginning of June '09...like anything milk chocolatey has more than 0.73851% of chance of survival within my ravenously greedy household! PAH!!

Am sure you all know Mars produces a quality chocolate under many different guises; so the fact that this large size outer red packaging contained within a quartet of sweetie assortments, plus a big, fat chunky-marbled brown egg was fabulous!

Prettily decorated with delicate white butterflies and adorned with little hearts and squiggles, there are a smattering of illustrated Maltesers - both solid and halves to show the honey-combed inners of the tempting little chocolate-covered balls.
Packaged within a plastic inner container, the four 'friends' fitted snugly down one side (and even more snugly now on my hips...Arghhh!), with the magnificent red foiled-wrapped oval shape taking pride of place showing through part cardboard cut out shapes on the front of the packaging.

Now this review wouldn't be much good if I didn't tell you about the calorie content of the goodies aforementioned (*sigh, I hate reality*) so here goes nothing...
The egg itself is 527 calories per 100 gram (chuffin' Nora!), with a fat content of, frighteningly enough, 29.2 gram (Nooooo!).
The moreish Maltesers are 186 calories per bag (now that's more like it!), with a fat content of 9.2 gram (Say it fast, it doesn't sound quite so bad!).
The yummy Revels are 168 calories (Hmm, really? Where have I hidden them again?); the fat content being a do-able 7.4 gram (...hastily reaches for Weight Waters Points Trackers for some hasty adding up!).

Time for the good stuff - Literally! (*Rubs hands with glee!*)

The oval egg had a thick shell...not for long though, mwahhhh! The chocolate tasted lovely and fresh with the distinctive Mars chocolate flavour, which I find to be quite rich and fulfilling. As far as the aftertaste goes (reaches for the crumbs in the foil wrapper a tad reluctantly - Not!), it is creamy, satisfying and rather sweet as you would expect a milk chocolate to be.

The Maltesers were, as always, a light, crunchy and crisp textured spherical delight which melted in the mouth, although far too quick for my liking! Always a pleasure to roll around the lining of the mouth - as they dissolve delightfully with a tongue-tingling texture from the honeycombed ball centres.
Minstrels, as always, were found to be fresh, tasty, crunchy on the outer crisp brown sugary disc-shaped shell with a melt-in-the-mouth reputation that has not diminished one iota since the last time I tried them!

Last but not least the Revels were wonderful, the variety of flavours always spice this treat up a little! To be perfectly honest my girl managed to get her mangy mitts on most of them first, although I did grab a couple that tasted as fresh as the other chocolatey bags of sweeties.
I snaffled a chewy, creamy toffee mini-confection, plus a flavoursome raisin wrapped in a thick rich outer coating - both of which I enjoyed immensely!

All in all then, a great Easter-time egg-travaganza of a handful of indulgent occasional treats.
And you never know you might just spot one for half price, so you could give one a go yourself? I would definitely recommend you try this once a year pleasure, although am not sure my spare chins, bat winged arms, flabby thighs and wobbly, bobbly bum would all agree!

Summary: A GREAT & TASTY EASTER COMBINATION FROM THE MAKERS OF MARS!
