Advantages: None they are horrible.
Disadvantages: WHITE CHOCOLATE!!!
Sometimes companies just don't know when to leave things alone and when Mars released the white chocolate Maltesers this was a classic example. I understand that sweet companies find it easier to release variations of their already popular sweets than to be constantly coming up with brand new ideas but there are things that can't be bettered or varied and the marvellous Malteser is one of them.
I am sure everyone has tried a milk chocolate original Malteser or at least knows what they are but if not let me enlighten you. An original Malteser is a light honeycomb ball surrounded in milk chocolate which you can crunch or just allow to melt gently on your tongue. The white chocolate version is of course the same sweet just with the nice milk chocolate replaced by a terrible white chocolate.
Now I am not against white chocolate and do like some of the white chocolate sweets around but this just does not work with Maltesers. Mars had this sweet spot on, the milk chocolate complimented the honeycomb just right where the white chocolate tastes a bit powdery and overpowers the delicious honeycomb taste which is what the Malteser is all about.
The original version of this sweet comes in a red bag with pictures of the milk chocolate covered Maltesers on the front along with the name. The new white chocolate version looks similar but the bag has a white outline and the sweet`s pictured are of course in white chocolate and in smaller lettering the word white has been added above the name.
This version of the famous Malteser is much too sweet for my liking and as mentioned before the chocolate seems a bit powdery rather than the smooth melt in the mouth milk version. Both white and milk chocolate versions are priced exactly the same which for an average sized bag is around 45p. If you have tried Maltesers original milk chocolate before then leave it at that and if you are just going to try Maltesers for the first time don't let the white ones put you off, go for the milk chocolate version everytime.
Thanks for reading!
Summary: A pale imitation of a great classic!
