Advantages: The white chocolate compliments the taste of the honeycomb

Disadvantages: None for me

Anybody would think that I like chocolate when you consider the amount I was given for Christmas. I have been given so much of the stuff that it'll be February before I finish it all! So much for any New Year's resolutions about wanting to eat healthier! I am currently trying to eat my way through it as quickly as possible so I can start afresh in February, so I apologise in advance if all of my reviews seem to be have a similar chocolaty theme! After trying Mars Planets - a terrible version of a classic original, I was quite sceptical when it came to trying a different version of maltesers. Despite my initial reservations I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed these. So much so, that I can't actually decide whether I actually prefer these to the original.

Packaging:
White Maltesers are packaged in a very similar way to that of the original maltesers. The bag is exactly the same size and shape with the same maltesers logo on it in large writing which covers nearly the length of the bag. The word 'white' is added on the top right hand side above the logo and the maltesers pictured on the bag are covered in white chocolate. The only other significant difference to the packaging is the fact that the edges of the bag are a creamy white colour. The red bag seems to be engulfed in creamy white chocolate, obviously highlighting that the chocolate inside is white. The back of the packet is entirely white, with the nutritional information written in red writing. In the right light it is easy enough to read however it may cause a problem to some people.

Inside the bag:
In comparison to the bag of Mars Planets that I recently tried (and reviewed) each bag of maltesers seems adequately full and you near enough get a full bag of sweets, rather than half a bag of air. Not only this, but after opening the bag the sweets always look appetising as the chocolate looks fresh and not dull like the Mars Planets did. Unlike the planets the maltesers all appear to be of a similar size and shape. However, you do get the odd random shaped one that looks a bit misshapen yet these ones taste just as good. The inside of the bag is made out of silver foil to keep the sweets as fresh as possible.

Taste Test:
One of the main reasons why I love the original maltesers is the fact that each ball is coated in a layer of thick chocolate. The chocolate is thick enough that you can nibble it all off before enjoying the honeycomb centre. Thankfully, after trying the white chocolate variety I can report that the white chocolate coating is equally thick. As with the milk chocolate variety the chocolate is very smooth and tasty. The white version is a lot creamier than the milk and definitely hits the spot when you are in need of chocolate. The chocolate is creamy yet it is not too sickly and sweet like Milky bars can sometimes be. The honeycomb is equally as crunchy and flavoursome as in normal maltesers and is not overpowered by the chocolate. I believe this is a positive thing as the taste of the honeycomb is what makes maltesers unique.

Summary:
Overall, much to my surprise I believe these to be as good if not better than the original milk chocolate version. White chocolate is not my favourite chocolate by any stretch and I am surprised by how much I like them. The malty flavour really works well with the chocolate which is not too sweet or sickly. I would definitely recommend these to any malteser fan.

Summary: Recommended!

I wish they would make them in dark chocolate. White is too sweet for me. Nice review.
