Advantages: Non sickly white chocolate

Disadvantages: Dense honeycomb centre; Size

Once in a while I fancy a bag of sweets to eat whilst driving. I originally had planned on buying normal maltesers but when I saw the white maltesers I thought I may as well give them a go, seem to be going through a white chocolate phase.

I picked up the 165g pouch for a typically elevated petrol station price but I believe you can pick them up for between £1.20 and £1.70 a pouch and 40p-60p per little bag depending where you go, although be aware although no longer a limited edition sweet these are not as widely available as standard maltesers.

These maltesers are described as white chocolates with crisp, light honeycombed centres. When I opened the bag the first thing I thought was that they were smaller than normal maltesers (although maybe I should buy a bag just to double check!). I popped one in my mouth the white chocolate wasn't particularly strong but it also didn't tast sickly like some white chocolate can. When bitten into the honeycomb centre seemed more solid than I was expecting, also the chocolate coating didn't fall off like the milk chocolate coating often does - not sure why this was possibly a thinner coat of white chocolate on the honeycomb balls. I also like to let traditional maltesers melt in my mouth, the honeycomb centre disolves al most completely. I tried this with the white maltesers but the more dense centre just didn't melt away in the same manner.

I just didn't get the same pleasure from eating a bag of these as I do when eating milk chocolate maltesers. The denser honeycomb centre seems to be the culprit. I won't be going out of my way to buy these again.

And just in case you're interested white chocolate maltesers are not a healthy option with 488 cal and 15.3g of sat fat per 100g. Be aware that the values they display on the front of the pouch are per serving.

Summary: Think I'll stick to classic Maltesers

I know what you mean - with the white maltesers, I eat a couple at a time and enjoy them but with the milk chocolate ones, people have to drag the bag away from me, lol! Great write up : ) Eleanor x

A big fan of the standard Maltesers.... Yet to try this variety.
