Advantages: Lots and lots of them

Disadvantages: Wierd melting sensation

Rainbow drops are a wierd sweet that seems to have been around since the year dot.I purchased mine in ASDA for 49p and there are litterly hundreds in the packet.

As the name would suggest they are coloured every colour of the rainbow. Each tiny sweet is only a about 3.5 millimeters long and about 2 millimeters wide. They are made of puffed rice with a bumpy uneven surface. The best way to describe them is probably as small pieces of tasty crispy paper with a fruit flavoured coating. Yes I did say paper that was just to give an idea of the texture they don't really taste like paper nor rice for that matter. The fruit coating is very sweet but even if you select a lot of the same colour you are going to be hard pushed to decide which flavour you are actually eating.Which ever flavour they do taste quite nice.

For all their wierdness they are quite nice to eat if somewhat unusual, the sweetness counteracts the bland taste of the bumpy rice bit. They most definately remind me of rice crispies which have been sucked dry of any flavour and then re-dried and coated with some nice sweet stuff. You could easily eat a packet and not feel like you've eaten any at all since they are not very filling.

I remember them from my youth, but they just aren't quite the same, maybe you have to be young to enjoy them to the full. I'm glad I tried them even if it was just a little stroll now nostalgia lane, but I don't think I'll be rushing off to buy another packet.

I think perhaps if they had managed to keep a little more of the ricey taste they might have been more appealling, but as they stand they really aren't much to rave about.

They do seem to be good value and I'm sure there are many children out there who just love them to bits as I did way back when. That is not to say I disliked them today they were fine, but tomorrow I'll be back on the mars bars.

Summary: Not a bad sweet, just a little bit bland
