... all. They'd simply taken and old one, wine gums, and coated it in that newfangled sour stuff. The problem with these sours is that there is both too much and not enough sourness to them. I know that makes no sense so I'll explain. The first hit of sourness is extremely intense and I would say too much so, even though I do like sour sweets in general. But then the sourness goes away so fast as the coating is very thin, leaving a sickly wine gum in its place. If you like wine gums I'm sure this would be fine but ...more

Premium Review Maynards Sours: These soured me on sour sweets (574 words)

I was browsing in the sweets aisle of my local shop the other day looking for something a bit different to sample that wouldn't break my diet too much. I came across a tube of Maynard's Sours and thought they looked just unpleasant enough that I wouldn't be tempted to scarf them all at once. And then I looked at the side of the tube and found they only contained 170 calories in the entire packet. Not bad, so I bought them. Maynard's Sours seem to be cashing in on the craze for sour sweets that has been going around for the past few years. There are sour coke bottles, sour gummy bears, and sour worms to name just a few that I've seen. I opened ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tangy Maynards (291 words)

I thought I'd tasted most of Maynards sweets until I stumbled on a pack of these recently, in my local shop, at a cost of 50p for a tube weighing 52g. haven't seen these in any other shops before and guess they must be 'fairly' new. In the pack there were about a dozen different coloured sweets covered in sugar. They were a similar size and texture to a pastil but were sour. The tube packet looked very similar to maynards wine gums but it does say on the side maynards sours. There is also a picture of a Scottish man saying 'set the loot loose' and 'what's in your packet?'. Apparently these packets at the moment have hundreds of cash prizes in them at the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Maynards Sours: A Sour Sensation (202 words)

I bought a tube of Maynards Sours for 52p. It is a 52g tube and contains around 12 sweets. Quite expensive, but worth it, they are a very different sweet experience. They are also available in large family packs, but I haven't seen them stocked in too many places. The packaging is attractive, bright yellow with a coloured maynards logo. If you are familiar with tubes of Maynards wine gums, they look like a yellow version of those. I suppose on appearance, you would describe these sweets as looking a bit like fruit pastilles as they are round and coated in sugar. There are different colours; red, green, orange, yellow and black. Each is a different ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A mouth explosion! (248 words)

Someone recently brought me over a pack of Maynards Sours and it wasn't a sweet that I had come across, I guess it's a relatively new treat because it's certainly not one I can remember when living in England. The one I received was a cylindrical tube shape but in a rather soft plastic wrapper. A pack seems to retail for about 50p, there aren't that many of them so it does seem a little bit steep but they are rather tasty. You can also get them in larger packs like the one in the photo, I'm unsure of the amount that come in them. There are 5 diferent colours (read: flavours!) : orange, yellow, red, black and green. I don't think you need to be ...  Read the complete review
