... Tesco, you can either get a samll bag or a large bag but it works out better value money if you buy the larger bag. The last bag I bought was 1.81kg for £2.24. McCain Oven Chips contain no artificial ingredients or flavours, no hydrogenated fats and the ingredients are potatoes and sunflower oil (simple). The chips contain less than 5% fat and in a 100g of oven baked chips there are 158 calories. The chips are really easy to make, you can grill them, something which I have never done. The other option is to cook t...more

Premium Review McCain 5% Fat Oven Chips: The best of a bad bunch. (386 words)

I really love to eat chips and when I get the opportunity to have them I prefer home made chips or chips from the fish and chip shop. I don't really like frozen chips but I do buy them as there are times when you need to have food that is quick and convenient and you don't get much easier than popping then onto a tray and putting them in the oven for 20 minutes. Over the years I have actually tried many frozen chips, thin chips, fat chips, crinkle chips, straight chips. McCain, Home Fries, Aunt Bessies, shop's own brand. It is surprising how many different kinds of chips you can buy but none taste as good as home made chips. If I do have to have oven chips ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review McCain less than 5% fat oven chips! (315 words)

McCain oven chips come in a few different sizes & I brought the 907g bag from Asda for £1.55 although this is available cheaper elsewhere so shop around! They come packaged in a familiar bag (to me at least) with a McCain logo and a picture of chips on the front as well as a logo telling me that they are just 5% fat and this really is my main reason for purchasing them when there are cheaper bags of oven chips available. They are also cholesterol free as they are cooked in sunflower oil. The chips are very easy to cook simply pour them out on an oven tray and bake in the oven for around 25-30 minutes (depending on cooking method) and there are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review McCain 5% Fat Oven Chips: CHIPS! (435 words)

We eat a fair number of chips in our house so am constantly looking for good offers on good ones & couldn't resist buying these in Iceland the other day. why? - the price was only £1 - the bag is big - 907g - there's less than 5% fat - The other McCains' products I've tried have always been of a high standard in my opinion. The large plastic bag is easy to spot amongst the other other frozen chips as it is a bright orange with pictures of scrummy chips, the logo & 'oven chips' printed in large letters on the front. The chips are a bit on the skinny side for me - I prefer chunky or choppie ones - but my ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Who Said Chips Had To Be Unhealthy? (767 words)

I was tempted into trying these a while ago because they're advertised as only 5% fat. I don't like buying into the whole diet industry, but at the time they were on offer and worked out a lot cheaper than other varieties, especially considering you get a lot in the bag. Although I'm not so keen on skinnier chips, I do like these and have bought them regularly since trying them. These Oven Chips are produced by McCain and I tend to stick with them for frozen chips as they're a brand I trust for quality food. Because they're so popular, they're readily available in most supermarkets and can be found in the freezer section in a big golden-coloured bag. On the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review McCain 5% Fat Oven Chips: Almost as good as the real thing (734 words)

Chips used to be just chips; either from the chippie as a real treat, even more so if you could have battered fish with it, or homemade, which meant peelling and slicing. This was how we all had our chips years ago. Then frozen chips made their appearance; they were sort of OK, except I didn't like the crinkle-cut variety because they all seemed to have nothing inside them. A bit later, McCain came on the scene and it seems we haven't looked back. I used to cook the family's chips in a chip pan with a basket. We would fill the pan two-thirds full with oil, place the peeled, sliced chips in the basket and wait until they were cooked - the cooking time ...  Read the complete review
