I don't eat that many oven chips because I think they taste proper fake but today I had some of McCains crinkle cut ones and they were quite nice. They cook in about 20 mins and I recommend you turn them a couple of times while they are cooking so that they go brown all the way round and this helps them to crisp evenly. Some of the chips are mega long and the rest of them are average size, there aren't many of them that have chipped or broken while they are in the bag but I noticed a few sharp scabby ones came out when I tipped them onto the baking tray. The chips taste a lot better than I remember them tasting when I used to have oven ... Read the complete review

Chips. For the most part I'm quite indifferent when it comes to them, I don't own a chip pan, don't eat fried food anyway and only ever have them when I'm at the seaside on a rare occasion. To accompany meals I usually have mashed potato or potato based products like hash browns or croquettes, so it's only every now and then that I fancy them. I do normally associate chips with being bad for you and after being served them swimming in grease from a chip shop some years ago so I generally avoid them. McCain's crinkle cut oven chips are currently on offer at Tesco at the moment, 2 bags for £2.00 and as I had bought some fish fingers and other frozen items I ... Read the complete review

I have previously reviewed McCain Oven Chips, but they were the straight cut version. I almost want to change my review as I noticed many chips were going to waste because they were too skinny and tiny, so whilst some would cook okay, others would be undercooked, and others still burnt to a crisp. Anyway, I wasn't sure if there would be much difference between the straight and crinkle cut versions, but there's enough difference for me to change to buying the latter. These chippies are made by McCain, a very popular and prestigious manufacturer, so I trust that their products 'should' be tasty and good quality. I must admit that I buy quite a lot of chips as ... McCain Crinkle Oven Chips seem like they're quite expensive at £2.44 a bag, but then the bag is 1.8kg which is pretty sizeable! You can get the same size bag of Tesco Crinkle Chips for almost half the price of McCain's, but they don't taste quite as nice. In my opinion, £2.44 is a very reasonable price for this product. All that goes into these chips is potatoes and sunflower oil. There are no dodgy spices, flavourings or unnatural ingredients to worry about with these, and there are no nasty surprises in store when you eat them either. Because McCains are a reputable brand name looking after their image, they have high standards that they try to ... Read the complete review

The crinkle-cut variety is not my usual first choice of oven chip but as these were the only type available in a non-super-maximum-sized package at the supermarket the other day this is what we purchased. It cost just over £1.50 for just under a kg of McCain oven chips. Just under half the bag fed two adults (bearing in mind that one these two is currently supposed to be on a potato-free diet for health reasons). Apart from those excellent 'Tesco Finest' range thick-cut oven chips that may or may not be coated in a light batter, generally I find that oven chips are to proper, tasty chips (by which I mean ones that you've deep-fried yourself from ...
