Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Soggy tasteless, limp

I like chips almost as much as I love chocolate, so when I passed the frozen department in ASDA and saw these I thought I'd give them a try.

They come in 4 packs at around £1.09. The packaging Is probably the most exciting thing about these, it's a lovely red colour with McCains Micro Chips in big bold yellow letters. Each box is about 1.5 inches high, 4 inches wide and 6 inches high.Inside each box there are perhaps a dozen chips of the size of an average homemade chip.

To cook you simply open the box along the perforations at one end and flick this up. Bung in the microwave for 1 min 15 secs. Open the box fully and place the chips directly into the nearest dustbin. This will save you the unpleasant task of having to taste them.

I have tried various settings on the micro wave to cook these but the end result is always the same. A limp soggy tastless chip. I wasn't expecting my chips to be as good as normal homemade chips but I was kind of hoping they would be at least eddible. There is nothing at all in these chips whilst viewing them that might endear them to the consumer. They look soggy and they look limp. As I lifted one to sample it simply flopped in my fingers. I forced myself to taste it, whatever it was coated in to aid the microwave cooking process had made it mostly soggy, until I chewed. Then I was greeted with some rather hard lumps of potato. There was no crispness not that I was expecting them to be very crisp at all. It was as if someone had taken some home made chips and killed them they looked and tasted totally disgusting. Other McCain micro products unfortuneatly fall into the same catagory as these.................disgusting.The idea is good use the micro wave to save on fats etc but it just doesn't work. They neither look nor taste like proper chips.

Needless to say I am not recommending this product and I would suggest you add 1p to the purchase price and nip down the chippy and get a decent bag of chips.

Summary: Simply disgusting

I never did like these. Much prefer the original old fashioned chip. Tea xx

I'll take your word for it and skip the microwave to dustbin bit.
