Advantages: Very Large and Filling

Disadvantages: Stupid Adverts and too much flavouring

McCoy's is the 3rd biggest brand in the UK crisp market, around 5 million packs are consumed throughout the country on a weekly basis and about a third of all UK households have packets in their homes.

The name of the crisps comes from the English statement, 'The Real McCoy', and the crisps are marketed as being a man's crisp, something too heavy and manly for girls.

The crisps themselves are round and ridged and are a lot thicker than conventional crisps, they come in a variety of flavours, from ready salted (much more heavily salted than most packets of crisps) to Salt and Vinegar, Cheese and Onion and the manly Flame Grilled Steak flavour.

A full list of flavours is below:

* Ready Salted
* Salt And Malt Vinegar
* Sour Cream And Chive
* Steak And Ale
* Hot Jalfrezi
* Flamegrilled Steak
* Mexican Chilli
* Chilli Beef
* Melted Cheese And Bacon
* Chicken Madras
* Cheddar And Onion
* Sizzling King Prawn

Some have proved much more accessible and popular than others, many are great pub snacks, but generally in the supermarkets and pubs, the traditional flavours are the most popular. The cheddar and onion and steak are my favourites both have strong flavours, although from reading the ingredients this is much more to do with flavouring than any natural taste.

You can buy McCoy's by the packet or in six or twelve packs, the price varies but it is always much better value to buy in larger packs, you can sometimes get 6 packs for under £1 in Asda.

I like these crisps when I'm in the pub, for some reason they are a fantastic crisp for afternoons with a pint and a group of friends, they are thick and filling, the ridges hold the taste and the flavour really shines through, the advertising campaign is a bit embarrassing and seems to have stolen whole heartedly from the old Yorkies campaign, but overall these are a crisp that can be enjoyed by anyone no matter what their gender.

Summary: Decent Crisps, Not good for you, but nice with a pint!
