Advantages: good taste

Disadvantages: might not please cheese purists

Now I'm not usually one for spreadable cheeses per say. I find them rather processed and cheap tasting, and I don't class them as cheese, more a cheese tasting spread. I therefore had misgivings when I was offered some to try by my parents one morning during a toast based breakfast. I tried it none the less though as I was fairly familiar with the blocked McLellands Seriously Strong Cheddar which is one of my favourite non exotic types of cheddar cheese. So when I tried the spreadable version I was pleasantly surprised and actually quite relieved!

It has a very strong cheddar type flavour, very similar to that of a farmhouse cheddar slice. It spreads very well on pretty much any kind of food type you wish to spread on, and is, unfortunately for me, very moreish.

Its the kind of spread that one knows is going to go straight to the hips, as it is quite heavy in the mouth, exploding the taste buds with its tanginess. On the negative side though, it does leave one feeling quite bloated and stomach heavy, so I would suggest trying it in small doses.

The McLellands SSSC is packaged in a relatively modest sized plastic tub, and is foil sealed for freshness, as well as having quite a tightly sealing plastic tub lid. The spreads' packaging is very noticeable on the shelf, with a bright fire engine red colour scheme and a large noticeable font.

This in my opinion is easily one of the best cheese spreads on the market. If you like a strong kick to your spreadable cheese, and you're feeling bored with the light airy fairy taste of Philadelphia, then this spread is definitely for you.

It is available from all leading supermarkets in the cheese section.

Summary: cheesy!

I agree this isn't too bad compared to some cheese spreads that are avaliable :-0
