Advantages: great flavour, look & texture.
Disadvantages: too moreish!
Whether or not it's all the doom & gloom around this week (lists of our service-people killed in Iraq, the economy, swine flu etc) or whether it's because I'm just a pig I'm not sure, but I've eaten much more than my fair share of biscuits & cakes the past few days.
I've always been please with heir products & I couldn't resist this pack of McVities Hobnobs yesterday which cost 60p from our local indoor market.
The packaging is bright & cheerful (as shown) but this pack tempted me even more as it states there's 50% less saturated fat but with the 'same great taste'.
When you open the heat-sealed pack (300g) you're greeted with a stack of around 24/25 lovely round biscuits (sorry I can't be exact but temptation took over before I started to write this review).
The trouble is with Hobnobs I've found is I can't just stop at one - the colour & taste of these yummy oaty biscuits just makes me want more....
They're described as being 'nobbly' & 'oaty' which they indeed are. They're what I'd call a substantial biscuit as you can get quite a few crunchy, slightly chewy bites from each one. They're also good for dunking but I prefer to eat them as they are so I don't lose any of the flavour or texture.
Hobnobs are more special than digestives or rich tea biscuits & are more filling (although I find there's always room for 'just one more) & I've never tasted anything that comes near to the quality of these McVities yummy oes.
On the packet it's telling me the following information -
- no artificial colours or flavours.
- good source of fibre.
- 60% oat & wholemeal goodness.
It also lists (in smaller print) the other not-so-good ingredients which include sugar, vegetable oil, syrup, raising agents etc &, unfortunately for some, contains gluten & the biscuits are produced on a line handling nuts, milk & soya.
The nutritional values are also listed - I won't list them all - but just to let you know(if you're watching what you eat, like me) each biscuit contains 67 calories, 3.1g fat & 8.7g carbohydrate.
summary
~
- a really tasty first class biscuit.
- great texture described as 'nobbly' - I'd say crunchy but also a lttle chewy.
- lovely golden brown colour.
- lovely taste of rolled oats.
- defintely a biscuit to be recommended.
Summary: a highly recommended biscuit
