Advantages: tasty and quite versatile
Disadvantages: toooo crumbly!
The HobNob is a bit of a british classic, and probably wouldn't be seen dead in a foreign supermarket. This doesn't stop me gobbling my fair share though!
HobNobs are a lovely buttery, oaty mash of goodness that are usually purchased in a 300g pack, which sets me back £1 in somerfield at the moment. At 67 calories per biscuit and 3.1g of fat they aren't really very good for you, but the way I see it, at least it doesn't have chocolate on - eh?
Despite a recent change of image, the HobNob packet is still utterly recognisable in the biscuit aisle and is an orangey yellow combination with a bright white logo. There are approximately 20 biscuits in a pack, and so despite the £1 cost, it does last the week in my house, although it depends on my mood of course!
The HobNob tastes immediately buttery as soon as you put it in your mouth, but it does have a tendancy to crumble quite quickly, making them fragile biscuits. This means you can't really take a bite out of them very cleanly, and that a plate is an absolute must. Unusually, I quite enjoy mine with some philadelphia on, which you might want to consider, although there is nothing wrong with them on their own at all.
I do find that they are quite sickly and that in one sitting I can only really eat maybe two. The other issue is that dunking them in tea isn't always terribly sucessful due to their crumbly nature. Another altenative use for HobNobs is to use them in a cheesecake as the base instead of digestive biscuits, which gives the dish a bit more of a buttery taste.
HobNobs are a reasonably priced, run of the mill biscuit that are great in any household. While they have a lot of flavour, they aren't too overpowering for most palletes.
Summary: a well priced biscuit
