Advantages: Popular, quality product. Well-balanced texture that's very oaty-liscious, good price & high fibre

Disadvantages: Some may find the original a bit bland

I can't believe I only sampled my first Hob Nob about a year ago. I'm proud to put myself under the umbrella of being a Hob Nob fan, even though I didn't think I'd like them at first (but that may be because I see Noddy Holder when I think of Hob Nobs, which may be enough to deter anyone).

McVities make probably the most popular & well-known Hob Nob biscuits, and their reputation as being a quality manufacturer that dates back to 1830 has brought them a wide fan base. They released Hob Nobs in 1984 and they've managed to retain their classic appeal over the years.

What are Hob Nobs? That's a question I didn't know the answer to until I tried these. They're similar to biscuits except made primarily from rolled oats, giving them a rougher, slightly less crunchy appeal.

McVities Hob Nobs come in a 300g packet with a plastic orange wrapper and cost around 59p (Tesco). Similar versions are available, such as supermarket own brands at a slightly cheaper price, though these are far superior in quality, taste & texture. For around 60p a packet, I think they're a reasonable price because you get enough to help fill your biscuit barrel for a little while.
Each biscuit contains 67 calories and 3.1g of fat, so they're not the lowest fat/cal snacks out there. That said, these do have their health benefits over regular biscuits because the rolled oats mean they're a great source of fibre.

The orange wrapper now also states that these contain 50% less saturated fat, which is always a good thing because they manage to keep the 'same great taste'.

How do they taste? They're just the right consistency in that they're not too soft and not too hard; the oats make the texture chewier than regular biscuits, as opposed to being hard & crunchy, but they're not soft & floppy either. The taste is hard to describe, though there's nothing I would say is offensive to the palate (ooo get me and my food critic words, shame my ability to describe foods isn't very good!).

Some may find these slightly bland, but I quite like plain-tasting foods the majority of time so I love these and find them slightly addictive. I wouldn't say they're too dry either, but they do go better with a nice cuppa tea. I sound like an old woman with my tea-drinking obsession, but I can assure you I'm not. Hob Nobs are a product, however, that I would say would be suitable for anyone & everyone (unless you have a food intolerance to oats etc!).

Since being released and gaining much popularity, McVities have extended the range to include chocolate covered Hob Nobs (milk & plain), Light (lower fat version) and Hob Nob flapjacks, just incase you want to try something a little different to the original.

These have the general feel of a quality product, with 60% oat and wholemeal goodness that tastes great as well as providing a healthy added benefit.

Summary: Mmm...'oatally delicious! :o)
