Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: price, not enough in packet, calories
I am reviewing McVities Belgian Chocolate and Hazelnut Boasters. I’ve decided to review these because I have only recently discovered them but they have quickly become my favourite biccies.
I spotted them in Sainsbury’s when they were on ‘buy one get one free’ so I got two packets for £1.05. I’ve since discovered that they sometimes have them in Somerfields at 2 packets for £1 so shop around for the best deal, you’ll want to when you hear how delicious they are.
The Belgian Chocolate and Hazelnut Boasters come in a blue packet with the ‘McVitie’s’ logo on the front and Boasters written across the front. There is a description of the biscuits of the front telling us that the are biscuits which contain hazelnuts and chocolate chunks. There is also a picture of the scrumptious biscuits.
On the back is all the usual information; ingredients, nutritional info, contact address, best before date and weight (150g).
The other type of Boasters only have chunks of Belgian chocolate in and come in a red packet, they are also yummy but not as nice as the ones I’m reviewing.
Inside the packet there is a plastic tray divided into 3 sections in each section there is 3 biscuits so you only get 9 in a packet. This is why I stock up when they’re on offer because otherwise they work out very expensive.
The biscuits taste delicious; they have a really nice home-baked taste about them which is quite hard to explain. It is almost like shortbread because it has quite a buttery taste but it is still a biscuit and doesn’t taste exactly like shortbread. That’s probably not a very useful description really but I’m afraid it’s quite hard to describe.
The best part about the biscuits is the hazelnuts and chocolate chunks which are delicious- the Belgian chocolate chunks are very big and melt instantly because the cookies have been baked. The hazelnuts are mostly whole giving it added crunchiness and a gorgeous flavour.
The biscuits are generously sized; I’d estimate about 7cm diameter but of course all those yummy ingredients come at a price, the calories.
Each biscuit contains 93kcal and 5.7g fat which sounds a lot for a biscuit but it’s still less than a small chocolate bar.
100g contains 548kcal and 33.3g fat. Hazelnuts make up 11% of the total ingredients ad Chocolate chunks 14%.
The biscuits are suitable for vegetarians but obviously not for nut allergy sufferers. There is also a warning that they may contain Seasame Seeds so avoid these if you are an allergy sufferer.
McVitie’s can be contacted at McVitie’s, PO Box 30716, London, WC1N 2QJ.
Overall I think these biscuits are delicious, I will definitely continue buying them but I make sure I stock up when they are on offer. It is worth shopping around for the best deal as you do save quite a bit in the long run.
In my opinion there is no downside to the taste but they need to make bigger packets, mine always seem to disappear rather quickly.
