Advantages: Really Nice Taste if You Just Have One
Disadvantages: Bit Sickly, Chewy and Pricey
McVities Caramel Digestive Biscuits were one of the best inventions since sliced bread. Now they're not one of my absolute favourites, they couldn't see off Hob Nobs for example, but they're right up there as occasional treat.
Basically, think of what a traditional digestive biscuit with a chocolate coating tastes like - then whack a layer of caramel in between. There you have your caramel digestive! The caramel in these isn't gooey or anything, it's thick and firm so you can really taste it even though there's only a very small amount. I have to say, it's a bit on the chewy side too.
These biscuits have the usual great McVities taste and naturally have good quality ingredients in them. But the caramel being very sweet, sickly so, combined with these being rather chewy makes these more like a chocolate bar than a biscuit to go with your mug of tea. They're astonishingly fattening too with nearly 4g of fat per biscuit! That's too high for an every day biscuit really.
The price is quite high too, I paid about £1.65 for quite a small packet. I mean, you could buy a multi pack of proper chocolate bars for that price and then at least you'd know you were eating sweets rather than disguising it in biscuit form.
Recommended yes, but as the odd treat when you fancy something special. These are definitely not an everyday biscuit thanks to the high price and sweet, chewy caramel filling.
