Advantages: gorgeous
Disadvantages: expensive, bad for you
I rarely buy biscuits, but when I was browsing round Sainsburys a while back and saw Hobnobs on special offer I couldn't resist.
Normally they retail at around £1.10 per 300g packet, and at this price I can easily walk past. However seeing piles and piles of them screaming half price at me, I was instantly drawn to the packets.
Milk chocolate hobnobs have to be my ultimate favourite biscuit, but I will resist them for both the price reason and also because a packet will not last me very long, and I'm left out of pocket and then serious guilt trips to the gym needed.
You get around 16 biscuits per 300g packets (yes I counted them), each the size of the diameter of a half pint glass. As I try to rip open the packet using the supposedly easy to open red strip that has to be peeled off. (I bought the traditional packet not the tube of biscuits). Hey who cares about the packaging when you have yummy contents inside! There's nothing classy or superior about the packaging at all, just a lot of two toned blue wrapping informing me of all the nutritional information I really only want to read after I have eaten the packet, otherwise it may spoil my enjoyment.
Each biscuit has a disappointingly thin layer of chocolate, expertly layered on by the factory machine. None the less, it's a delicious layer of chocolate that compliments the thick, nutty, oaty, crumbly texture that swims around my taste buds.
After tastes of eating bring spices to mind, a very subtle taste mind you, but slightly spicy all the same. The texture of the oats is very rough on my tongue, and there is a strong hint of butter and syrup popping through at the end.
Well that's one biscuit gone. Slightly good for me. I'm going to do the ultimate sacrifice and take a look at what I just ingested. All for the research you understand.
Each biscuit provides you with 92 calories and 4.5g of fat. Ouch! I didn't need to know that, and compared to a lot of snacks this is obviously very high.
They do contain Milk, Soya and gluten
Hobnobs are made by Mcvities who make a lot of varieties of biscuits. I would rate these compared to supermarket own to being slightly superior as I haven;t yet managed to find an own brand that tastes half as good as Mcvities.
Obviously eat in moderation as I probably wont be doing later today with a couple of glasses of wine.
Enjoy.
