Advantages: Looks nice, good amount of nice quality chocolate and it's a hob nob!
Disadvantages: Too sweet and sickly and high in calories for me
Being a huge Hob Nob biscuit fan it was only a matter of time till I got my grubby mitts on the chocolate hob nobs! I love Mcvities as a brand and I love hob nobs so why hadn't I tried them with the chocolate on as I'm a chocolate fan so far as a regular biscuit buyer? Well because I just adore original hob nobs and and I've tried other fancier hob nobs recently and to me they don't measure up. In my opinion you can't beat the prototype. Well I was feeling daring and popped these biccies in my basket for a change full of anticipation and dread.
These come in the tube as depicted on the review photograph or in the packet. I got mine in the packet because I have personally never seen the tube in the shops I have been in. So my packet was very similar to the photograph of the tube. Bright blue with Mcvities Hobnobs Milk Chocolate written on the front and I'm told they are the new bigger biscuit and there are pictures of choccy biccies on the front. Around the back of the packet the best before date is displayed, nutritional information is given, ingredients are listed and allergy advice is given, weight is stated (300g) and contact details for Mcvities are there too.
The Biscuits....
First couple of biscuits taste-wise were fine. The base is as you would expect a hob nob to be. Thick, golden and roughish in texture. The biscuit is so large you can't fit it in your mouth.... I did try (and believe me I have big mouth). They're oaty and sweet and slightly chewy so take a little work to digest. The top is a thick good quality milk chocolate which doesn't flake off or disintegrate at the sight of a cup of tea or coffee though does melt of course slightly with contact with heat. They're really creamy and sweet. However....
As I say the first couple of biscuits I really enjoyed but then the whole thing got far too sweet and filling for me. The hob nob got overpowered by the chocolate and the sweetness of the base and the chocolate all got too much for me and believe me I really do like sweet!
Verdict....
If you have a sweet tooth these are perfect. Great as well if your hungry and want something naughty to fill you up. They are fabulous for dunking cos as any hob nob lover will tell you these babies will drink your hot drink for you and want more and what is nice is even with chocolate on they are fuss free and no scumming is left in your mug from dunking! Just be aware they are incredibly sweet and full of calories but me I'll be sticking to me plain hob nobs from now on cos too many of these would make me sick!
