Advantages: The best biscuits around
Disadvantages: Not good for the cellulite.....
When hobnobs first made it onto the biscuit scene in the 1980s, I was seduced instantly - the delicious oatiness was unlike anything I had had before - somewhere between a digestive and a flapjack!
So when the chocolate versions came on the market, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. They come in milk chocolate or plain chocolate versions, and I much prefer the plain chocolate ones, but since a packet of milk chocolate hob nobs were recently given to me by a friend, it would have been rude to pass them by......wouldn't it!?
So, this is a standard 300g packet of biscuits, which has the price marked on the pack at £1.39 - This I feel is rather dear for a packet of biscuits and is the reason why I avoid buying them in my weekly trip to the supermarket, but......is it worth the money?
Well, I would say YES! The biscuit base is deliciously sweet and oaty, with no aftertaste or clagginess about it that you can sometimes get from a flapjack, or from a biscuit that includes too much artificial sweetner. The biscuit contains 30% oats, which is not too bad. The oats taste "toasty" - a delicious crisp base which is yum on its own!
Topping that biscuit base is a reasonably thick layer of milk chocolate - 24% of the total biscuit composition for those of you who are interested in numbers. The chocolate is of good quality and truly makes this biscuit......my one reservation is that at room temperature (such as this packet has been on my desk in the office today.....) the chocolate can get a bit melted, leaving sticky fingers which are not a good idea! Best to keep some wet wipes in the desk drawer.....
Once again we have a biscuit that is not particularly friendly for those following any sort of diet......each biscuit is 92 calories with 2.2grammes of saturated fat. There is little point in looking for the positive health benefits of these beauties, as the calorie/fat stats beat them hands down - but if you really want to justify scoffing one, you can take solace from the 0.9grammes of fibre in each biscuit.
Of course, if you are eating these in moderation, then you shouldn't have to worry too much about the calories/fat/fibre - just enjoy the biscuit and walk extra briskly up and down the stairs!
I find that these biscuits are reasonably filling, which means I have difficulty snaffling down a whole pack in one sitting - just as well, really, I suppose.....although it has been known with other biscuit brands in the past!
So my verdict is 4 stars - if half stars were awarded I would give it four and a half - just short of the 5 stars because of the sticky fingers at my desk.........
Summary: Pass the pack over!
