***McVities Chocolate Hobnobs***
I do not usually buy these but when I went into a nearby Sainsbury's recently they were on offer - they were half price. So as they have quite a long best before date I stocked up (roughly 6 months grace). The reason I don't like to buy them is that they are sooo moreish. You can easily get carried away.
***What are they like?***
Well they are available in both plain and milk chocolate and there is also a more expensive version which is packaged in a sealed cardboard container, I suppose to help keep the biscuits fresh. The thing is in our house they never hang around that long!
These are an essentially 'oat' biscuit topped with chocolate. The packaging has recently changed to a predominently orange colour, so if you haven't bought them in a while you could miss them on the shelf.
On a positive note they state that they do not contain any artificial preservatives or colours.
***Opinion***
These are a quality product. They are crisp, light and fresh and when you bite into them they crumble down nicely. You can clearly taste the oats which are roughly 30% of the product. They are not chewy at all, they are crisp without being hard and tough.
The chocolate covering is a little thin for my tastes, but nevertheless comprises of good quality chocolate. You do have to be careful and get on with eating it as the chocolate can quickly melt.
They are nice to dunk in tea or coffee, but in a way they are too good for this and are best enjoyed alone I think.
The one drawback that I can think of is that they leave a kind of sugary residue on your teeth afterwards and I always have the urge to go and brush them to get them feeling clean again. I am sure this is due to the high sugar content.
***Availability***
They are available in all the major supermarkest and cost around £1.26 although they are half price at Sainsbury's at the moment. It costs £1.32 for the hard case tube, but you get 50g less for your money.
The packaging states that they contain 45% oat and wholemeal. They are not light on calories, they contain 94 calories per biscuit, with 4.5g of fat (2.2g of which are saturates).
Summary: Nice for a treat from time to time.
