Advantages: delicious distinctive flavour and moist, crumbly but firm texture

Utterly delicious. Hobnobs are a really indulgent biscuit, but cut with a bit of rough to keep them honest. They are more crumbly than a disgestive, something I really like, and although they have some of that sweetmeal taste there is also an oatiness that for me makes the biscuit, giving it a real flavour of the grains inside and that's great because it allows the body of the biscuit to be the star in my opinion.

The biscuits are moderately sweet, but not in an aggressive way. Although it's probably not the case, it almost feels like the sweetness comes quite naturally from the sugars in the grains as the taste matches well. And there is a slight saltiness that for me provides welcome balance. There is also a certain buttery element that keeps the whole thing slightly moist.

The chocolate on the edge is quite thin and to be honest I'm glad. Unlike choco liebnitz, where the chocolate is the star and the biscuit more of a base for it to show off from, for me a hobnob is very much about the biscuit and the chocolate fulfils a similar function to a butter on toast - just rounds it off nicely.

I just wish I'd never looked at the nutritional information! These things carry so many calories you wouldn't need to eat for a week.

Summary: Seriously tasty and maybe even a little addictive.
