Advantages: tastes good, good price
Disadvantages: melts easy
I would definitely say that I am a cake person over chocolate. Don’t get me wrong, I love my chocolate but there is something nicer about eating cake, I feel more fulfilled and less sick. I love all kinds of Cake but my favourites are when classic chocolate bars go into cake form. The Bounty cake bars are nice as are many other buts I love the Galaxy Cake bars.
The Galaxy cake bars are quite easy to identify. They come in a multi pack of 5 and are in the usual Galaxy colours of a light brown swirl and then the McVities logo. When McVities do it you know it has to be good. The packaging is simple but I think classy.
So in the pack of 5 I reach for the cake bar on its own. It is of a decent size a usual mini cake size. It is approximately 11cm long, just enough but not too much. They are quite addictive these cake bars because the cake seems light but they are 165 calories per cake, 9.4g of fat which I suppose is less than some but you don’t want to go eating all 5 at once.
So the individual bars are a creamy light brown wrapper with the same nutritional facts on the wrapper. It is like a swirl of chocolate and light reflects of it giving a creamy look which makes you want the cake bar. I undress the cake bar and the nude bar lays there its milk chocolate coating with a wavy line covering its modesty.
The text on the front of the bar is very bold and stands out on the light background. They are easy to open and also are sealed well. It is definite that you must store in a cool place or obviously they will go hot and melt.
The chocolate tastes good though. Biting into the bar, on the top layer is a light brown fluffy cream and under it the cake. Them both together it tastes really nice. I like the fact it really does taste like a Galaxy bar, it’s exactly the taste you would hope it would be. It’s nice and sweet without being overly sickeneing.
The Galaxy Cake bars can be bought in all good supermarkets although not all sell them. I bought mine at Tesco and they were surprisingly cheap costing £1 for the 5. They are on offer there currently at 2 for £1.60 but of course all stores have different offers.
There isn’t really a proper website officially for McVities. They are on the website www.unitedbiscuits.com . I find that they have good customer service. I once made a complaint about a product and got vouchers so I was happy with this. There is an address on the side of the packet which you can write to if anything goes wrong.
I would recommend the cake bar to all lovers of Galaxy. If you like milk chocolate then again this would suit you. It probably isn’t for anyone who doesn’t like sweet cake bars as it is quite sweet. Some might even prefer this to the Galaxy chocolate bar. I think I do personally as I feel it is more enjoyable than a plain solid chunk of chocolate.
These are not really advertised much as I don’t feel it is really necessary. Their reputation is well known so they don’t have any adverts for them. It also states on the wrapper that this cake bar is suitable for vegetarians and that it doesn’t contain dairy cream.
The chocolate on this bar does tend to melt quickly as I have noticed in the past. As nice as it is the bars can sometimes get a bit too soft but I suppose apart from that I have no faults on this particular product.
Now if you want to have more of the cake bars there is a Galaxy Muffin. It is of a similar idea and is a bigger version. The muffins aren’t always as easy to eat though as the cake bars. Being the shape they are they can be eaten easy without making a mess.
