Advantages: Delicous with a nice crunch

Disadvantages: Perhaps not the healthiest option

Since I started reviewing food products on Dooyoo I have realised just how much junk I consume so decided to try looking for some healthier options. I came across McVities Go Ahead Forest Fruit Yogurt Breaks next to the cereal bars in Tesco and thought they looked pretty nice so I decided to give them a try. They cost £1.85 for a packet of 6 but until the 16/09/2008 you can buy 2 packs for £3 which gives you a saving of 70p! A bargain so I picked up 2 packs.

They come in a box which looks very similar in size and shape to the cereal bar boxes next to it. It has a red and purple background on which there is a picture of 2 of the slices one of which has been broken so that you can see its insides. There are also a lot of pictures of various pieces of fruit all over the front of the box, these are all fruits which have been included in the snack. There is also a very large green circle with the Go Ahead logo in it and the McVities logo next to it so you can be sure of what you're buying. On the back of the box are the ingredients and the nutritional information.

These slices contains: milk, soya and gluten and are produced on a line handling sesame seeds but they suitable for vegetarians. Each slice contains:
Energy - 68kcal
Protein - 0.9g
Carbohydrate - 11.6g
Of which sugars - 6.7g
Fat - 2.0g
Of which saturates - 1.1g
Fibre - 0.3g
Sodium - 0.1g

As you can see they are perhaps not the healthiest option to go for and if I really wanted to be healthy I should have just gone without the snack or had some fruit but they are healthier than the chocolate biscuits I am so prone to eating regularly.

Once you open the box you will see that there are actually 6 little packets wrapped in plastic to keep the contents fresh and the contents of each packet are 2 slices of McVities Go Ahead Forest Fruit Yogurt Breaks. This is nice as it means that you can eat just the right amount of 2 slices without making the others go stale and because they are not individually wrapped you save some packing which is good for the environment. They don't need to be individually wrapped because they are quite thin and lets face it there is no way you are going to be able to eat just one slice.

The slices are basically a lot of fruit mixed together with biscuit and then coated in yogurt, a nice sounding mixture. I don't think that there is really much of a smell to them but I could be wrong. When you first bite into them you can immediately taste the berries which are not sweet but rather sour or tangy, nice though and they are balanced out by the yogurt on top which is sweet, the biscuit in the middle provides a nice crunch but the taste is it is drowned by the taste from the fruit and the yogurt.

Overall I think that this is a great snack that really is worth the price paid for it but could still be a bit cheaper, it has a lovely sweet taste without being too sugary and is great to eat when you need a snack, perhaps not the healthiest of options though.

Summary: Nice and portion controlled
