Advantages: None for me
Disadvantages: Sickly, Dry, No Fruit, Sticky, Horrid Texture, Gross Yogurt
As my search continues for a breakfast alternative that will keep me satisfied till lunch time, I opted to buy a go ahead yogurt break (strawberry flavour) snack this morning, over my usual special K or nutri-grain bar, just to try something new.
I cannot say I regret the decision as I am able to review it! But besides that, there is little consolation for having passed on a better bar.
I picked up this pack as it was next to my usual favourites and I am a big fan of strawberry snacks. The packaging is very similar to most snacks of this kind, only it shows the bar being covered in yoghurt, something a little different I thought and parted with my 60p for the 36g twin pack.
Upon opening the foil wrapper I was surprised that there was no real aroma, no strong yogurt smell and certainly no strawberry whiff to make me look forward to eating it. I was especially surprised by the thickness of the yogurt covering; it is a sort of gel as it's so thick and makes it hard to pick up one of the thin slices as on contact with your fingers it starts to melt in a horrible sticky kind of way under the heat from your hands. I was also surprised that "biscuit" as it is described on the pack looked minimal.
On taking my first bit into the bar, I was relieved to find a hint of the promised strawberry but very disappointed at the amount. The biscuit has a minuet amount of strawberry between it and what little there is, is slightly chewy and definitely not as refreshing as any other fruit bar I have tried.
If it wasn't for the ridiculously thick and sickly yogurt, then the bar would be so dry, that I cannot imagine I would have bothered finishing it. The fact is I did continue through it only to see if it got any better. It really didn't. The yogurt tastes very artificial and the consistency is way too solid and thick to be any kind of yogurt I've tried before. It is almost too sweet and there is definitely too much of it compared to the fruit and biscuit. I was shocked to find the second little bar had even less fruit than the first. There are points in the 4 inch bar that had none at all. I'd say overall 45% of the bar was not covered in any kind of strawberry, even the dry and sticky type.
I was also disappointed by the texture of this bar, obviously having more yogurt than biscuit and more biscuit than fruit leaves the bar very dry in the middle but thick with horrible yogurt on top. Not a winning texture mixture at all.
Special K bars are crunchy yet moist and very rich with flavour, nutri-grain bars are soft and fluffy making them very filling and satisfying Go ahead Yogurt breaks are sickly, dry and a pain to hold. I definitely know which brands I will be sticking too next time!
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: Not worth bothering with!
