Advantages: Filling and tasty

Disadvantages: Quite sweet

McVities promote their Go ahead! product range at the healthier eating market.

I was tempted to buy these tropical fruit yogurt breaks on their, still current, BOGOF offer. So for £1.99 I bought 2 boxes of 6 yogurt breaks (the second box was the forest fruits variety).

Each box contains 6 wrapped "slices" - I was only expecting one snack per pack and was pleased to discover that they are wrapped in pairs (so 12 yogurt breaks to a box).

Each yogurt break is 9cm long, 4cm wide and about 0.5cm deep. It consists of a crisply baked biscuit which envelops a thinnish centre layer of sweet tasting fruits. Each slice is topped with a layer of yogurt.

The biscuit itself is a bit on the dry side and tends towards blandness but when combined with the double sweet hit whammy of the fruits and yogurt, that isn't an issue. The overall taste is distinctive and to my liking.

Each slice is quite filling although once a pack is opened, I can never resist munching both the slices in one sitting.

I'm a fan of yogurts and yogurt-topped food such as raisins and flapjacks and that was a big part of the attraction to me.

I'm not convinced by the healthy eating credentials of these snacks but that wasn't a reason for buying them (I wanted to try something different and they were on a good offer).

The box is flashed "with added calcium" and this is actually 60mg or 7.5% RDA (for an adult I assume). The nutritionals for an individual yogurt break slice are:
- 74 calories
- 7.6g sugars (which sounds high)
- 1.9g fat (of which 0.9g is saturates)
- 0.1g salt

The list of ingredients is a very lengthy one and includes the usual various sugars, fats ,powders etc, etc. The box tells me that the "finished product" contains 20% sultanas, 4% currants and the equivalent of 0.8% pineapple, peach and 0.2% mango. Also, produced on a line handling nuts, sesame seeds and eggs.

I would recommend these biscuity snacks - especially if you can get them on a deal (although £1.99 for 6 packs of 2 yogurt breaks is fair value). They're tasty, a nice change from the run of the mill museli bars and are a satisfying snack that definitely keeps the hunger pangs at bay.

Summary: A good tasting fruity snack biscuit

I must try these, they sound tastier than they look.

I really enjoy these. I agree with you about the supposed 'healthy' credentials. I mean I could sell cookies and say they're fat free and have no added sugar or whatever.
