I love Jaffa Cakes and I normally buy Tesco Value ones because they are a lot cheaper than McVities brand however when I saw the new McVities Jaffa Cake Blackcurrant I just had to try them. As far as I know no other brand makes the blackcurrant flavoured ones so I thought it would be worth a try buying them even though they are a lot of money at 70p for just 12 when you can get 24 Tesco Value orange filling ones for 50p. They come in a rectangular box which looks pretty much the same as the Original Jaffa Cakes but where Jaffa Cakes is written across the front it is in purple rather than orange as is the rest of the writing on the front of the packet. It also ... Read the complete review

You've got to admire McVities for experimenting. The Jaffa Cake is surely one of the most controversial(!) (is it a cake, is it a biscuit?) of the snack foods and one of the best understood. It's got a dark chocolate top, a spongy cake base and a zingy, tingly orange jelly part nesting in the middle. What McVities have done with the blackcurrant ones (as you might imagine) is to remove the "Jaffa" (orange) part and replace it with something altogether different. As our biscuit-tin was suffering from a annoying shortage of contents my last trip to Tesco ended in the sweets aisle. I was a bit undecided of what to put into my basket until my attention was grabbed by a familiar blue carton with the McVities Jaffa Cakes signature on it. Now these have been around for quite a while, so what really struck me, was the colour of the writing, which wasn't the expected orange, but bright purple. The following inspection brought up that these were indeed Jaffa Cakes, but with a Blackcurrant filling. Always happy to try something new I quickly stashed the little box of 12 - hopefully - delightful goodies into my basket, paid ... Read the complete review

Introduction ========= Now in my last review about the new McVities Jaffa Cakes Lemon and Lime flavour I hinted that there was another new flavour and therefore another review. So here it is. This packet was bought at my local Co-op on my weekly shopping trip. These were on BOGOF (Buy one get one free) and with the packaging saying it was new how could I resist this. I bought it so I could review it, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. The Product ========= The box is the standard rectangle shape with a blue backgrounds and the Jaffa Cakes title in coloured purple. Also the flavour, blackcurrant is at the top ...
