Advantages: More Jaffa's in the range
Disadvantages: Blackcurrant leaves a sour taste
Introduction
=========
Now in my last review about the new McVities Jaffa Cakes Lemon and Lime flavour I hinted that there was another new flavour and therefore another review. So here it is.
This packet was bought at my local Co-op on my weekly shopping trip. These were on BOGOF (Buy one get one free) and with the packaging saying it was new how could I resist this. I bought it so I could review it, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.
The Product
=========
The box is the standard rectangle shape with a blue backgrounds and the Jaffa Cakes title in coloured purple. Also the flavour, blackcurrant is at the top right hand corner of the box.
The Jaffa Cake itself looks the same as an original one, the smell is normal as well, and the nice smell of the chocolate that it. The sponge is quite soft at the bottom; looking at it you could pass this off as the original Jaffa Cake and play a joke on someone.
The Taste
=======
Right the first bite, the sponge is soft and the chocolate breaks nicely and the blackcurrant centre is very plain to begin with but as it absorbs into your pallet the taste in blackcurrant increases.
It is not as refreshing as the original Jaffa Cakes are but leaves quite a sour taste in your mouth after a little time. I am not too keen on the taste of these; this might just be a packet of Jaffa Cakes that I actually manage to put down before finishing the packet. Hang on I'm just going to get a lemon and lime Jaffa Cake to refresh my pallet.
Ah that's better.
Nutritional Information
=================
McVities Jaffa Cakes are being advertisement on television at the moment because they only have 1g of fat per cake. That does sound good doesn't it but I have just eaten three cakes (for research purposes only).
There is 45 calories per cake, which is very good because since I am not keen on the taste of these one is just about all I can manage. Just don't tell my partner or he'll make me buy these again.
There is a warning that this product contains milk, eggs, soya and gluten for those readers that require this information. These Jaffa Cakes are also suitable for vegetarians.
Overview
=======
I absolutely love the original Jaffa Cakes but I am disappointed with this blackcurrant flavour. It just does not seem to have the same zingy taste as the original flavour and the lemon and lime flavour.
However on a positive note they only contain 45 calories per cake and 1g of fat, so if you do not like this flavour either it may be a good way to have something sweet that will not ruin your diet and probably put you off eating anymore.
My partner likes the blackcurrant flavour but does not like the lemon and lime flavour so please be aware that it may only be me that does not like this flavour. As my Granddad used to tell me "You can't dislike something if you have never tried it" and who true that is.
Jaffa Cakes can be bought from most good supermarkets and are usually priced at 99p for a box of twelve and since these are currently on offer at Co-op it is even better value to buy them.
