Advantages: Lovely taste of ginger and really moist

Disadvantages: Too much makes your mouth stick shut

I popped into Tesco a couple of weeks ago and saw that Jamaican Ginger cake was on offer 2 for £1.09, (I used to love this as a kid) and as I am always looking for bargains to put in my little boys and his dads lunch box, I new these would be a winner. These cakes have a long life on for about a 2-3 months (so I have brought a few).

The cakes come in a reddy brown package with a blue strip on the front and palm trees in red. Written was McVities Jamaica Ginger Cake - Deliciously moist ginger cake for over 50 years. On the back of the package is the Ingredients, Nutritional Information (360kcal per 100g) - the cake does not actually have a weight on or not that I can see, and also has a section on leading a healthily lifestyle (not a very big section).

When you take the cake out of the packet you get a lovely smell of ginger and the cake looks very moist and sticky(yum), and is a lovely dark ginger colour. The cake is wrapped in a paper case which is easy to remove. I cut the cake into 5 nice sized slices (= 2 pieces each for little man and big man's lunch boxes for 2 days + 1 slice for me).

The cake is lovely and soft when you bite into it and you get that great taste of ginger but it is not too overpowering. The cake is moist but this is great for storing, as I wrap mine in cling film and it lasts great for 5 days (I have to say I cannot comment on whether the cake would be all right after that, as it never stays that long in my house).

This cake is lovely warmed up and having it with cream, ice cream or custard (and there is also a section on the back of the pack of whom to contact for recipe ideas for Jamaican Ginger Cake.

The only downside to this cake is if like me you decide one slice is not enough and end up eating another half a cake it can get a bit sticky and kind of sticks your mouth together (purly my own fault).

The cake has also gone down really well in the lunchboxes.

I don't know if I would pay the full price for this at £1.09, I tend not to pay full price for anything if I can help it.... but if I was craving ginger which tends to happen (along with chocolate, ice cream etc) then this would be the first thing I would go and buy.

Summary: Lasts well to pack in lunchboxes
