Advantages: Sweet and chocolatey
Disadvantages: Really unhealthy - like everything else seems to be!
I love biscuits especially chocolate ones but they are so very unhealthy. Despite trying to cut back on the amount of them I eat I still cannot resist a chocolate digestive when I see one that's why I bought McVities Milk Chocolate Homewheat Digestives.
Now I'm sure that most people all know what a chocolate digestive is but for those of you who don't I shall explain. A digestive biscuit is rather different to other biscuits as it is made of wheat and has a sweet wheat taste that you just don't get in any of the others. It also has a nice texture, not like the smooth mush you get when you are halfway through eating a Rich Tea, these have a slightly rougher texture and are easier to break down, which is why they are called Digestive Biscuits as you can digest them more easily than others. Now that you know what a digestive biscuit is I'm sure that you can tell what a chocolate digestive is, yep that's right it's a digestive which has been coated in chocolate on one side.
McVities Milk Chocolate Homewheat Digestives are better than most chocolate digestives, firstly they are made by McVities who are well known for being one of the best biscuit makers in the country and secondly because they are coated in Milk Chocolate rather than normal chocolate.
They come in the usual McVities packaging, a round shape because all of the biscuits have been stacked on top of each other inside and it has a picture of the biscuit with the McVities logo on one side with the ingredients, nutritional information and contact details for the company on the other side. The packets are normally varying shades of brown because of the chocolate topping to the biscuits. A packet of 400g which contains 24 biscuits will cost you around £1.20 which isn't bad especially considering that these are made by the best biscuit company there is.
As soon as you open the packet you will get a whiff of the lovely milk chocolate and wheat smell that comes from the biscuits, yum. The biscuits themselves are normally in quite good condition but you will find that some of hem have been broken on the way back as the packaging isn't very strong, oh well crumbs are still tasty. The biscuit half at the bottom is a dark golden brown colour and you can see slightly varying colours in it from the wheat. The chocolate on the top isn't very dark because of it being milk chocolate, it's a light brown colour and has a slightly bumpy texture. The biscuits are circular and about 5 or 6cms in diameter which is a good size. I can't be sure of their exact measurements as they never last long enough in this house to be measured.
They have a lovely taste. The digestive biscuit is very nice and sweet just like a good digestive should be, it also has a lovely crunch to it, however if you're not going to eat them all at once then I suggest you put them in an airtight container to keep them fresh and stop them going stale. There's nothing worse than a soft stale biscuit. The chocolate on the top is lovely, you can taste the milk and it has a nice creamy texture plus there seems to be plenty of it so if you're a chocoholic then don't panic these biscuits are great for you.
Unfortunately they aren't great for those who are allergic to Wheat or Dairy as they contain both of these. They are also very unhealthy so if you're on a diet then you should probably try to avoid these as they do contain 91 Calories each plus over 4g of fat each!! That's a lot for a biscuit but they are chocolate coated so you have to expect that.
Overall I think that these biscuits are great and I like to eat them when I really feel like having something sweet, otherwise I prefer the plain chocolate version of these as the chocolate on them helps to balance out the taste of the sweet biscuit. Overall a great biscuit that I highly recommend to anybody else who loves chocolate biscuits.
Summary: Brilliant Biscuit
