Having recently had a blip of health consciousness (lasted for all of 2 weeks- including several tesco visits) I knew that I should give up my beloved biscuits, namely plain chocolate digestives--- but i just couldn't. And then, down the aisle, I discovered McVitie's Rich Tea Lights! Now rich teas have always been my favourite biscuit. Crunchy, sweet, but not heavy. And what goes better with a cup of tea? So I immediately flipped over to the nutritional info. Each biscuit contains a mere 36 calories (as opposed to say, 80 in a digestive), no hydrogenated vegetable oil and less that 1g of fat! I was delighted. And did I mention that it was ... Read the complete review

I am always on a mission to save a few pennies whilst still being able to treat myself to the things that I enjoy in life so when I saw a multipack of miscellaneous McVities products I just had to snap it up at the bargain price of £1.00 from a local supermarket. Amongst others there was a packet of Rich Tea biscuits within and I promptly added these to my biscuit tin. They cost around 65p at present for a 300g packet (at all the big supermarkets) and you will receive about 25 biscuits for your money. Each biscuit is 38 calories and 1.3g of fat so these aren't too bad providing you stick to two or three with your tea rather than eating half the packet which I ... Read the complete review

McVities Rich Tea biscuits have always been part of my life. I remember eating them as a youngster and I have never tired of their simplicity and flavour. They're quite pricey for 'plain' biscuits, but the premium is well rewarded in terms of taste. The price varies widely from shop-to-shop depending on current offers but 75p for a packet of 30(ish) sounds pretty good. How to describe them? They are very light, dry and crisp biscuits. This crunch is actually particularly useful in helping to work out how long the packet has been open - the crisper, the fresher! They have a VERY mild tea flavour, are slightly sweet and chew to a cream-like, almost buttery feel. ... Read the complete review

McVities Classic Rich Tea biscuits are so far down my list of favourite biscuits that I rarely eat them. I would much rather a biscuit covered in chocolate or one with jam or cream in. Once in a blue moon will I get a craving for a plain biscuit but when I do, the Rich Tea is king. Its also worth noting that I am writing this review during Lent. Every year I give something up. This year it is chocolate. So, all of my favourite chocolate biscuits have gone out the window. My Rich Tea intake has increased as a result though. The biscuits themselves have a rather dry texture, are light brown in colour and are about 2.5" in diameter. Possibly the furthest you ... Read the complete review

Being a serial dunker, biscuits don't last long in my vicinity when there's a cup of tea around. I'm generally not very picky about which biscuits get dunked either - as long as they're not Mini Cheddars... yes, some people do actually dip those into tea, yuck! As I mentioned in my review for Tesco's own Rich Tea, the biscuits were apparently developed in 17th century in Yorkshire for the upper-classes as a light snack between full-course meals. The Rich Tea is circular, fairly thin and usually has some text engraved in the centre - in the case of the McVitie's variety, it's unsurprisingly "McVitie's Rich Tea Biscuit". Costing ...
