Advantages: Cheap, Tasty, Low Fat.

Disadvantages: You can never have just one.

McVities Classic Rich Tea biscuits are so far down my list of favourite biscuits that I rarely eat them. I would much rather a biscuit covered in chocolate or one with jam or cream in. Once in a blue moon will I get a craving for a plain biscuit but when I do, the Rich Tea is king. Its also worth noting that I am writing this review during Lent. Every year I give something up. This year it is chocolate. So, all of my favourite chocolate biscuits have gone out the window. My Rich Tea intake has increased as a result though.

The biscuits themselves have a rather dry texture, are light brown in colour and are about 2.5" in diameter. Possibly the furthest you could get from excitement in biscuit terms. McVities really weren't focusing on aesthetics when these babies were made.

As far as I'm concerned, the real reason these are so popular is that they were made for dunking! I've just polished off four of these with a huge cup of tea, it was so good that I felt inspired to write this review. Over the years I have dunked lots of different types of biscuit into my tea with varying success. McVities Classic Rich Tea is one of the success stories. Although dry in texture, dunking a rich tea into a hot cup of tea for about five seconds gives it just the right amount of exposure to the liquid to give it the perfect taste. Any longer and you run the risk of losing half of your biscuit to the bottom of your mug so you must take caution. Take it from a seasoned dunker.

Accoriding to the bright blue packaging (eye-catching I must admit) each biscuit has 38 kcal which isn't too bad for a snack food. They also have fairly low levels of fat (1.3g or 0.3g saturates) and carbohydrates (5.9g or 1.7g of sugars). The pack is also proud to display that the biscuits have no artificial flavours or colours.

Many people would view biscuits as something of a luxury shopping item but considering you can often get a pack of these for under a pound and many supermarkets have them on buy one get one free offers pretty regularly, I don't see how your kitched cupboard is complete without them!

Summary: Rich Tea Goodness.

Good luck with the chocolate fast. I've given it up too - have been eating lots of raisins instead - BORING!
